Behind the glove box tucked up above the hvac box. On my 04 it was plug and play as for wiring. Only the bracket needed some modifying.

If there is one word that scares me, when talking about the dash access, it is "tucked".

Another general term/phrase that scares me is "some modification required".

Haha. It’s actually not that bad. It’s visible when you lower the glovebox. (and drop everything out of it). If I remember correctly since the new OnStar box was slimmer than the one I took out, I took a 1/2” piece of plywood and wrapped it with foam padding. Used that as a spacer to hold it tight in the bracket. And I may have had to bend one small tab for it sit flush. Basically completely reversible in case you wanted to go back. It’s been in there for probably 4 years and still works like a charm. Used it several times on the 12 hour drive home today.

What are some OEM upgrades I could do to my 04 suburban?
1. Lie to the parts counter person, say it's a 2010-2018 Suburban, ask for
2010-2018 Front Caliper Brackets
2010-2018 Front Calipers
2010-2018 Front Rotors
2010-2018 Front Pads
reuse, or order new '04 brake hoses, they screw-in like they were made for each other.

2. '05-'06 pair of electrical fans instead of a big mechanical propeller; this also requires a pcm tune
Can't get tuned right away? just so happens that there's enough room for the propeller and the pair of electrical fans for them to coexist peacefully.
Looks weird but works just fine til you get tuned.

Dealership? What's a dealership? Kidding, I just prefer ANY ... ANY parts source over a dealership whenever humanly possible.
Last time a dealership asked me for a VIN, came prepared with a VIN for a 2010 Tahoe PPV for my front brake kit update-upgrade,
but when he quoted the prices, went to RockAuto for calipers rotors & pads, junkyard for caliper brackets.
