    Rebuilding 4l60e

Another vote for a 4L80e swap as @Tonimus pointed out. I did that on my 99 Silverado ECSB 2wd while I swapped from a 4.3 to a 5.3. On my truck configuration, there's no need for a drisveshaft shortening because the 2 piece driveshaft frame mount crossmember has slots for the center carrier...

    Stutaeng's 1999 Silverado

I removed the door molding last weekend which is kinda a PIA. Today I removed the cab trim logo. One side had melted completely over the kast 2 years, and the other was fine. I have to remove all trim anyway to repaint it. This week I noticed a faint kinda grinding noise when coming to a...

    FW_Z71Burb's 2002 Suburban Z71

@ORVietVet the deep pan (with the step) on the 4L60e was introduced in 1997. All GMT800 came with the deep pan AFAIK. But please confirm as a sanitary check. The matching deep pan filter has little dimple or feet on the corners. Agreed, I've never had to mess with exhausts when doing a...

    Faint fuel smell

I've tested those purge solenoids with a hand vacuum pump with a guage. I think they should hold something like 15-20 inches of Mercury of vacuum. You can also apply 12VDC simultaneously and confirm the solenoid opens correctly. I sometimes smell a bit of faint fuel on my 99 Silverado after...

    HVAC Controls

Good to know. I was wondering how one would remove those...I guess just cut it out? I was talking to my brother that did a 6.0 LS swap on his 90 RCSB C1500. He used some aftermarket bracket to mount his original style AC compressor. He says he feels some vibrations inside the cab when the...

    HVAC Controls

I was watching a YT video yesterday and the guy mentioned this retro-upgrade. I was not aware of this. Around the 10 minute mark. I will try it next time I have to replace an AC belt or tensioner on one of my trucks. Edit: my buddy just told me you can also retro-upgrade to the newer style...

    Manual Trans. NV3500 & NV44500 All Call . Who's got them?

Throw the ZF6-650 in the mix since those were manuals on GMT800 as well. Those came behind the 8.1 and 6.6 Duramax. Uber cool and rare. ...and thanks for saying Manual and not Manuel...A few years ago, I worked at a big company that had a monthly meeting and new hires were introduced. One of...

    2002 Silverado Sportside

Wow! That's a beautiful truck! I'd categorize that as a "survivor" with the few miles and pristine condition, especially because stepsides are so rare nowadays.

    Seat hunting

Is that the "peanut butter" tan color? My 99 Silverado has that interior. It's pretty rare to find. I swapped my leather captain seats/console for cloth/jumpseat and it took me a while to find that. They are out there, just have to keep looking and be patient because they didn't make a lot of those.

    Loose steering

You bought a white Suburban Z71 identical to one @FW_Z71Burb bought a recently. Or did he sell you his? [thinking emoji] A complete front-end rebuild seems like a really good idea. If you want to save a bit of coin, consider ordering the ball joints and the bushings for LCA. Those are the...

    Undercarriage Input

No personal experience dealing with northern trucks, but seeing Eric O at SMA, I'd ray that truck looks remarkable for being a 2005 in PA. It's similar to NY state, right? The 3-5 year old trucks that he works on daily are already rusted to hell...SMH

    Finally happened. Lifter tick.

Not good...Sorry to hear that. My 04 project Suburban (that's been sitting for years now) also developed a tick and a misfire. I had parked it at my brother's house for several months. I drove it home and didn't go away. Got home and had a misfire on #7. Checked spark and wire and was okay. Did...

Leaky injector or bad fuel pump check valve

If you could go ahead and replace the fuel injector o-rings, that would be ideal. May be something like $35 shipped thu Rockauto. O-rings may be brittle by now and since you are there, might as well do it. Just a thought.

Leaky injector or bad fuel pump check valve

My 99 sometimes does this but in the afternoon after sitting in the sun when I get off work. I haven't tried diagnosing it. I did once cap the return line with a vacuum cap and hose clamp and the pressure jumped to like 80 psi and it held. That's when I did my V8 swap and I was messing with...
