    2000 Silverado z71 refurb

Probably not right now. Only have 350miles on it since alignment. The tires on the truck now are 8 years old even though they only have about 10k miles. I’ll likely be replacing them this year. Probably check alignment then. I noticed recently while driving in the rain the windows fog up...

    2000 Silverado z71 refurb

Pulled off tie rods from the knuckles tonight and the knuckles turn with some resistance but not what I would think is excessive. Started the truck and turned the wheel without the knuckles connected and there’s definitely still heaviness when turning but noticeably less then when it’s all...

    2000 Silverado z71 refurb

Yeah hopefully not. I did have an alignment done right after changing parts with a reputable shop that has been doing alignments for me for years. So I trust them. I’ll check the ball joints out here soon.

    2000 Silverado z71 refurb

Well got the steering gear box replaced with a bluetop unit, new Napa power steering pump and high pressure line. Got it all bled out but steering still feels pretty heavy. Definitely got rid of the sloppy dead center feeling. but compared to others it definitely seems to take a lot more effort...

    Tire Review: Toyo OpenCountry AT3

Currently running Toyo OpenCountry AT3 121/118S in 285/70R17. These make a little more noise than the Michelin Defenders and the Continental TerrainContact A/T's that I've run in the past one this truck. Keep in mind they are an A/T not a highway All-Season. There's a bit of understeer...

    Tire Review: Continental TerrainContact A/T

So prior to the recent set of Michelin Defenders I ran I had a set of Continental TerrainContact A/T 121/118S in 285/70R17. These tires were very comfortable and super quiet. They were pretty new when I got them and was generally happy with them. I had them on for about 26k miles over 2...

Tire Review: Michelin Defender LTX M/S

Yeah if I had the means to dismount the tire then I'd probably have done it myself. unfortunately that equipment exists at my buddies shop 3 hrs away so didn't work out this time. And the Cooper tires I had that were on this rig when I bought it were actually nice tires. I liked them just...

Tire Review: Michelin Defender LTX M/S

So I have had the pleasure of running the Michelin Defender LTX M/S in LT265/70R17 121/118R for ~43k miles on my 2004 Yukon XL 2500. Loved these tires. Smooth, quiet, fantastic mpg and steering response. I did experience some excessive wear on the outside edge of the tread but I'm pretty...

    2000 Silverado z71 refurb

Not a huge fan of the blueish led backlighting on the hvac controls. I’ll fix that eventually. Cluster actually looks pretty good in this pic. Bottom right doesn’t look as bad as I thought. Bluetooth button on the factory modded stereo.

    2000 Silverado z71 refurb

Checked your thread and you did everything I did except that the cover on my 2000 was permanently sealed metal cover. Checked it out thoroughly today and no water anywhere. So my reseal job seemed to do the trick for now. The annoying thing is the sealant I used stayed really tacky on the...

    Oil Analysis Choices

Blackstone is the same for gas and diesel oil sample testing. They also do transmission coolant and diesel fuel testing which have other prices.

    Oil Analysis Choices

I use blackstone for my Duramax usually every other oil change just to keep an eye on changes in wear metals.

    2000 Silverado z71 refurb

I’m back home so I’m digging into this one again. Hopefully the water leak is still good. I’ve been gone a few weeks and we got a lot of rain over that time. First up gotta change the power steering pump and gear box and lines. Then I gotta bleed the brakes again and cycle the abs pump...

    OEM upgrades

Haha. It’s actually not that bad. It’s visible when you lower the glovebox. (and drop everything out of it). If I remember correctly since the new OnStar box was slimmer than the one I took out, I took a 1/2” piece of plywood and wrapped it with foam padding. Used that as a spacer to hold it...

    OEM upgrades

Behind the glove box tucked up above the hvac box. On my 04 it was plug and play as for wiring. Only the bracket needed some modifying.

    OEM upgrades

For reference I found part # 20794960 from a 2010 corvette c6. The top box is the c6 unit. You can see the Bluetooth logo on the right. I remember modifying the mounting bracket slightly since the new unit was a bit thinner. I don’t recall the years but trailblazers and maybe Cadillac...

    OEM upgrades

If you want Bluetooth audio for phone calls over the factory stereo you can swap in a OnStar box from a 2009ish corvette or I’ve heard the trailblazer also offered Bluetooth phone calls. You just have to ensure the year you get it from has Bluetooth (there’s a logo on the label of the box) and...

What have you done to your GMT800 lately?

yeah most people are asking $100 a piece for them. having a hard time stomaching that for a plastic cover. I tried several knockoff aftermarket ones but they either dont fit over the full float hub or they are too big in diameter and dont sit inside the inner ridge of the h2 wheels. Im...

What have you done to your GMT800 lately?

I lost one due to the the threaded parts being stripped out over the years. the covers are original to the Yukon (395k miles). and to keep it even, I just pulled the other one off and made sure the fronts stayed tight. hard to find replacements. many look the same but dimensionally are...
