    2004 RCSB 4x4 - The Mail Truck

Okay, I have recently been having some crazy thoughts about building an engine for this thing. I have thought for a long time that a 6.0 should be under the hood. Finding a low mileage, swap ready 6.0 is becoming hard. The ones that do exist are expensive. Enter the early long crank 6.0s. They...

    2004 RCSB 4x4 - The Mail Truck

The 93 is under the knife (or wrench?) so the 04 got thrust into forest service duty. With the day off and rainy weather, we decided to go visit some of Oregon's covered bridges. Our goal was to connect the more isolated ones via NF and/or BLM roads. The plan was going swimmingly until I came...

    99 1500 4.8 oil separator options

I would pull the PCV valve on the back of your driver-side valve cover and see what type you have. If original, it should look similar to the one above and make a click-clack noise when you shake it. If you still have that type I would replace it. The OE type will eventually fail, and that is...

Rust free in PNW 2004 Suburban 2500

Clean rig, but no way at that price. I spy a trailer brake controller and 4 previous owners on the Carfax. 6.0 and a brake controller... we know one of those 4 previous owners worked it. And no transmission service? I'm out. It also looks like there is a good amount of wear on the plastic part...

    99 1500 4.8 oil separator options

Here is the fixed orifice valve. It is quite literally a hollow shell with a small hole drilled in the base

    99 1500 4.8 oil separator options

Is this on a stock application or turbo/FI? On a turbo application I would definitely consider a catch can if retaining PCV. On a stock or mild NA build I would not consider a catch can necessary. Are you trying to solve an oil consumption problem? I know early LS applications suffered from...

    Keep driving your GMT800s?

Beautiful truck! I really like that two-tone combo from GM. Do you know what the two colors are? I hesitate to call it brown on brown as that just doesn't sound great. How does she feel about an Avalanche? Those tend to get overlooked because they look goofy.

    Keep driving your GMT800s?

I'm sure this is a rhetorical question, but GMT800 all day. I purchased mine with about that many miles on it. I was just thinking about it the other day; I have personally driven mine in 11 states, including to Lake Superior in Duluth. Would you trust an L87 or little Duramax blasting through...

    Keep driving your GMT800s?

New vehicles suck! I am most definitely a shade-tree guy. Once things went CAN bus I checked out. I will seldom touch anything post 2008 with real issues. Too many electronics and computers for my liking. Like @ORVietVet said, lots of "module assemblies" that cost a fortune. It does make it easy...

    Upgrades.

I forgot to answer this. I haven't personally been that deep in an LS since before the pandemic, and a lot of parts suppliers and names have changed. I am definitely not the guy to ask about this right now, I would hate to lead you in the wrong direction, and it would be an absolute guess on my...

    Upgrades.

I assumed the suburban had the 5.3. Does the suburban have a 6.0 too??? Because that might change the course of what I would do. If the suburban has a 6.0, and the 6.0 in the Silverado is solid, it might be worth it to find another 6.0 to build for the Silverado. Honestly, so many options, but...

    Bosch Alternator Good Buy

I punched in a few more OE Part numbers. Looks like the current exchange part being offered (for Bosch AL8731N) from GM is #19244746. Application 2000-2003. Here's a link to GM parts...

    Bosch Alternator Good Buy

Gosh, I totally forgot about those early GMT800 OE bosch units! You are completely correct, this is not an OE Bosch style unit. The one I installed is Bosch made copy of the OE Delphi AD244. New and manufactured in USA, which was sort of a surprise. I've leaned towards bosch the past few years...

    Upgrades.

Tough thing with the suburban is OP mentioned a tick. In that case, I'm getting new lifters, but that might just be me. On an LS, lifters are a head off ordeal. If you got the heads off you might as well... And that's how I get myself in trouble!

The Irish guys list it at 145 amps, so there's that. Who knows, it works...

    Bosch Alternator Good Buy

Hi all, Just thought I would share this in case anyone is in need of an alternator. The reman one made it 10 years or so, but it was on its last legs. These trucks mainly came with either an ad230 or ad244 alternator. The early year ad244 was rated at 130 amps while the later trucks got 145 amp...

    Upgrades.

Not buying shit parts is SO hard! It sucks, but that usually just means forking over more money... But, as far as camshafts, stick to ones that are OE quality or better. For instance, Cam Motion has multiple options for cam cores. Of course the better quality 8620 core is more expensive than the...

    Brakes jamming up

Very likely considering the age of these trucks and how simple it is to bolt on bigger/better OEM parts. OP, does your rig still have 16" wheels? If so, that limits how many other calipers might have been 'swapped' on. Also make sure to use all new hardware for the pads.

    2004 RCSB 4x4 - The Mail Truck

Checking for leaks with 50psi in the bags. Looking real goofy... Doesn't look too bad unloaded with 5psi. I would prefer it to sit a little lower in the back, but you can't have everything. It sure beats bottoming out over every bump. I should have done this years ago.

    2004 RCSB 4x4 - The Mail Truck

Latest update on the 04 involved finally getting the airbags installed. The controller and compressor had been sitting in a bin for at least 10 years, the bags are new. I installed the compressor where the second battery would be on a diesel.
