I have a 2000 silverado 4.8 5sp 4x4.The truck lost power and has a misfire in it.
i did a compression check and found cylinder number 7 to have only 60psi. then add a little oil went up to 70psi. i know that means the cylinder is dead. the rest were 135psi. the truck has 273000 miles on it. i am wanting opinions on what i should do. i know the choice is mine in the end. i have rebuilt many of engines before. i have done research on what it takes to swap the engine as far as computer tune. should i rebuild the 4.8, find a 5.3 to swap into it or forget about the truck all together?

Honestly, I'd just rebuild the 4.8 that is in it if you feel like the truck as a whole is worth keeping. The 4.8 is a good engine and when compared the stock vs stock the 5.3 isn't a big enough upgrade to justify the additional cost.

Just my $.02 cents.
