So I've been driving my 99 Silverado ECSB daily again and I've noticed it's got more road noise than my 06 Suburban. The suburban is more quiet and I see there's an additional weatherstripping at the very bottom of the door, whereas my 99 doesn't have that. I can post some photos of the differences later.

My 99 also didn't come with the firewall insulation on the engine bay. I've got a buddy that also has a 99 Silverado and he said his does have that insulation. Looks like PPE makes a replacement for that though.

Does anyone else know if there's any other OEM differences?

I’ve thought the same when I compared my single cab to my 01 tahoe i had. But it was only a couple of years old when i owned it so it was still very new. Maybe a thicker pad under the carpet or maybe all the carpet, seats, headliner etc absorb a lot of the sound?

Out of curiosity, are the cab vents original? They can allow road noise in through them. I just replaced mine last year and I had several “vanes (don’t know what else to call them)” that seemed to be stuck open.

Yeah, they are original. I'm planning on removing the bed in a few weeks, so I'll have to check it out.

Here's the bottom seal I was talking about. The gray is the Suburban and the gold is the Silverado.

I was looking at the seal around the A pillar and it looks a bit different as well. I'm comparing a truck to a SUV, so IDK if that's why?

I replaced mine without removing the bed. You can get at them from underneath. It’s tabbed at the bottom. If you can release the tab, it just hinges out and will drop out from there. My replacements came from Amazon

Have you gotten a paper catalog from LMC Truck? I keep one around to compare part numbers. If part numbers are the same, then good chance something might swap. Same goes when comparing 99-02 and 03-07.

Is the pickup a WT=Work Truck? Seems to me that they would not put as much sound deadening on a WT. Plus, the Tahoe/Yukon/Suburban are more of a family vehicle and they would put more sound deadening in them, IMO and maybe even some more/different seals.

No, not a work truck. It's an LS trim with leather, so like middle of the road trim package.

I have also wondered if the SUVs had any differences related to road noise, but I just figured...well, I have no idea now?

Here's the firewall insulation replacement I found. Says it fits gas and diesel models. Probably a pia to install with the engine in-place tho.

Before I would spend $300 on that, I would know how much of a PITA it would be to install.

Well, before you pay $300 for a blanket, consider just DIY sound-deadening your cab. I did mine for under $100 and it only takes a few hours to do everything. Made a world of difference, and mine is a WT.

That's awesome! What product is that? Looks like you also did the doors?

Now I'm actually interested in doing this now... I've never removed the carpet on my Silverado.

Side note: A few months ago I replaced the rear carpet on my 04 project suburban because it was really dirty. I ordered it from RA and got the one with the noise dampening material, which was bit more than the regular version. The original carpet I don't believe had anything, except a separate foam backing like what they put under the carpet in homes.

did it make a huge difference?
I wouldn’t say huge, but it definitely quieted down the road noise. Mine is a WT that had rubber flooring with thin jute pad underneath. Before it sounded hollow, especially driving in the rain (hearing the constant splashing of water underneath the cab.

The only road noise now is basically wind noise from the windows. I’m sure if I had exhaust I could have noticed more of a difference though.
