Went for a drive today up the McKenzie Hiway, here in Oregon. Could have driven to the snow but did not. Going to the coast tomorrow on an equally great day. Me and my girl had a good time. Truck performed flawlessly. Fire went thru this area in 2020 or 2021, IIRC.

Ok, today we went to the coast and again was beautiful. I am supplying pics of the coast and ocean and it was way more crowded than have seen before. Couple pics under the Hiway 101 bridge in Florence, Or. and a couple pics of the Hiway 101 bridge when get off to see the Heceta Lighthouse. From that vantage point, can only see the Keeper's house and none of the Lighthouse. If you look to the left of the Keeper's House, you can see a couple tall trees before it all drops down to the ocean. The small white area you see is the base of where the lighthouse is. There is also some pics of a place on Hiway 101 of where the sea water slams in and created a chasm and it is called The Devil's Churn. Really great to go see when there is a storm. Best to take the trail and walk right amongst where the water comes in. Supplied a pic of the Florence Oregon Sea Lion Caves sign and some pics of the Marina down in Florence. Be prepared if you ever visit the Sea Lion Caves, just north of Florence, it is a sight to behold and is beautiful in there and lots of lions to see but many, it stinks down there. Last pic is of the gas receipt in Mapleton, Or. Chevron for 89 octane fuel at $4.49.9 a gallon.

The 4th pic here is where the chasm has been cut by the sea water over many many years and when the water slams in, especially in a storm, the water will shoot 30-40 feet in the air.20250325_123927.jpg20250325_113654.jpg20250325_113646.jpg20250325_160739.jpg

Great pictures.. looks like some amazing weather. What a cool bridge! The chasm must be an awesome sight when the water shoots up like you mentioned.

All I've got are some older pics from Bolivar Beach / Bolivar Peninsula (short ferry ride across from Galveston TX)

Sometimes we'd take the 300

and sometimes the Redneckinator

Water is almost always nice and calm, beach usually very quiet. You can park on the beach, and watch the parade of ships in/out of the Houston Ship Channel.

We almost always catch some excellent fried catfish and shrimp at Benno's on the seawall in Galveston on these visits...

Extra hush puppies please! :)

and the occasional visit to Murdoch's down the street to sit on their porch/breezeway and sip on something cold while the waves crash underneath.

It's been a while but only because I figure I've bored my poor wife to death with the place, but a favorite of mine is the Galveston Railroad Museum. Last time we went was 2022. This place was almost completely underwater and wiped out in 2018 by Hurricane Harvey. Broke my heart that the Texas Limited locomotives had to be scrapped from the damage they suffered in the flood water.

These are some 2022 pics

I guess I'm getting excited about going again soon. We try to fit at least a few trips to the beach in, each year, and usually off-season so we miss the crowds. SE TX has warm weather for such a long part of the year it's easy to go and have a nice time without it being officially "Summer"

I have done a lot in my life. Stepped in and eaten a meal in all 50 states. Been over 2/3 way around the world in the service. Flown off and on the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk CV-63. Have driven literally thousands and thousands of miles across this country. Worked as a photojournalist and was a photographer in the US Navy and then worked 40+ years in automotive repair shops. Saw Dale Earnhardt win the Brickyard 400 and been to several other NASCAR races. Seen Shirley "Cha Cha" Muldowney race "Big Daddy" Don Garlits, lived on both coasts and lots of time in the Midwest in KC, Mo. and rode with my dad in his owner/operator tractor/trailer rig......but I have never ever been in or ridden on a train and I want to do that before I die. They fascinate me and my girl knows it. We are planning an Oregon Coast train ride, one of these days.
