So I have a 2006 sierra with the manual climate control and the backlights have burned out in the middle and left side. As well number 4 on the fan speed selector no longer works. Is it possible to fix both? Or should I look into replacing the whole unit, which i'd rather not do. If anyone knows what type of lights to buy I would love to know, as the fan speed is not a big bother for me, I'm decent at soldering so poking at the circuit board is not a problem.

I have the auto climate control on my 06 Suburban and a few years ago I replaced the lights. Did the LED upgrade, I believe from ebay. It was really easy. Took maybe 30 minutes. They should have the same kits for your specific module.

And your fan speed not working on setting 4 may be your blower motor resistor. They are known to go out. It is recommended to replace the blower motor as well. You should be able to remove the resistor and check it with a DVOM.

I too have a nonfunctional number 4. to my underdstanding this is because of the blower motor and motor resistor or its the most used fan position and it just wears out.

Mine was replaced according to gm VIS , by rhe Dealer in 2005 for the same condition, it was actually a free fix from GM for these vehciles if you had the issue even after the warranty period until like 2009

Welcome to the forum from Oregon.

Yea, the #4 problem is likely the resistor and blower combination needing replaced, unless the #4 happened at exactly the same time. Then maybe just some soldering and lights replacement.

This is interesting, as my 2006 Silverado WT has THE EXACT same lights out and #4 speed on the fan has not worked since I bought the truck in 2014. The speed issue is likely the blower speed control module (what used to be the resistor pack), as once or twice over the years I have seen speed 4 work intermittently.

On my 1996 C1500, it uses socketed light bulbs for all the dash lighting, but I think on 2003-2006 models, all the bulbs are soldered in, at least on the instrument cluster. I had fun replacing all the bulbs on the cluster for my 2003 Yukon a decade or so ago. I suspect the same thing on the manual climate control. Let me know what you find out...

the sliders

Yep. I got the driver and passenger sliders, but they are not illuminated any more, so you gotta grab for them and do it by feel when it is dark. Or are you saying the sliders were never illuminated? I have just been assuming they were, but the lights have been out since I got the truck in 2014...

I'm Saying the only difference is my fdials still light up but not the sliders, but same situation. Work truck trim and 2005. But mine was addressed by a dealer early on because there was a soft-campaign for free fixes for it. The fix wasn't done right or just failed from lots of use on fan speed 4. Truly the most ideal manual fan speed
