This is something that always seems to come up …… what speakers fit in the rear extended cab doors. I wanted to document what I know works. It doesn’t mean you have to go the route I did. On extended cab doors, you have to watch the mounting depth or the magnet will hit the back of the door skin. This is for when you install replacements in the factory location. Hole opening is a 4x6. What I’ve ran across before is even though you get a replacement 4x6 speaker does not mean it’s a direct fit. I ran across this on my 02. I was installing Sony Xplod 4x6. The magnet and speaker cage was slightly bigger than OEM; I had to cut some metal for those to fit. For those that have Bose and don’t want to rewire, Bose does run low ohm speakers. I found that fronts are around 3 ohm and rear was at 2 ohm. Bose in these trucks amount to a 4 inch round speaker in a plastic plate to fit in the 4x6 speaker hole. My current 04 has Powerbass L2 series 5 1/4, 2 ohm speakers in place of the 4 inch Bose speakers. I went with these since there was very little metal to cut for these to fit. These also fit under the door panel grill with no modifications. Most aftermarket speakers include a template. I use a Sharpie to mark the cut lines and the holes for the mounting screws. On a side note, anytime I do a speaker install in a door, I always put in the foam baffles. I make a small hole for the wires to pass through. I’ve also installed 6 1/2 speakers in a couple of non - Bose trucks. This is a Rockford Fosgate R165X3 (6.5) in an 03 extended cab. Also, if you are unsure what to run, check out Crutchfield or Sonic Electronix. I use both of these to price check local places to see if you really are getting a deal. Crutchfield, Sonic Electronix, and Best Buy does Open Box deals. Usually means the original box was damaged. These typically come at a discounted price.
