List of parts needed…

-factory fog light housings from Amazon

-880 fog light harness from Amazon
iJDMTOY Wiring Harness

Next remove your grill, parking lights and bumper. Removing the bumper makes it easier to run the harness and install the fog light housings.

Connect the main power for your relay harness to the main power from the battery and use the brown wire on the parking lamp harness to trigger the relay. The fog lights turn on every time the park lamps or head lights are on, an added bonus is that they say on with the high beams. Since my truck is a 1999 I have a diode between my white and gray wires on the BCM to disable my automatic headlights.

Nice mod!

I was surprised to learn that on both our '06 SS's the factory fog light harness was already present, connectors just hanging there; just needed to add foglights and the appropriate switch. Behind the bumper grilles on an SS they're more for looks than anything, but I thought they were cool anyway. I'm uncertain but I wonder if all the "Cateye" trucks have the harness there, ready to use?

I looked all over my 04 and never found that harness. I ended up making my own harness, tying it in with a 30 amp relay so lights only come on with key. Doing it this way means you can run driving lights with low or high beam.

I was literally about to make a post about this. I want to add fog lights to my 2000, but not have to reprogram the BCM. I am thinking of using a standalone harness with a switch.

My DRL (the white center lights) are never on. My headlights are always on. I think the ambient light sensor is bad, so I'll have to replace that first.

Which bulb harness did you tap into for power? Assuming DRLs or the fogs would blink when you hit your turn signal?

Before assuming the sensor is bad**, check the DRL bulbs. They're high watt bulbs and are often burnt out. I remember when this feature first hit the scene with GMT800's and even practically new trucks were often seen running around with a DRL bulb already burnt out.

**edit - just saw I overlooked where you say the headlights are always on, so you may be onto something there with the sensor being bad (or possibly unhooked)

It's a #4114, a 31W bulb that runs the entire time you're driving in daylight. That's a brighter filament, in the same size envelope, as a typical brake light - the bright (brake/turn) filament in a #3157 runs 27W and is never on full-time, of course.

I tried LED replacements for a while but typical with automotive LED's, they're Chinesium and rarely last as long as you expect they should, for the amount they cost. Many will say you can't run LED's in a DRL application because it could be PWM instead of regular voltage, but I am fairly certain the DRL bulbs in this type of setup are regular voltage. They aren't dual-purpose bulbs that run dimmer for the DRL function and then brighter under other circumstances (like the low beam bulbs in a late GMT400.)

I gave up keeping the original incandescent DRL's working in our 06's. My wife turns the headlights on whenever she's driving, anyway.

The headlights always stay illuminated on 99-00 trucks, that’s why you have to jump the two wires with a diode on the BCM.

I forgot which wire I used on the parking lamp. There is three wires going to the plug, I used the one that was constant hot. I figured it out with my fluke. I will take a look.

I've had Sealight LEDs on my Denali for almost 4 years now with no issues (DRL, fogs, and headlights). Might be worth a shot for you Silvy. They are almost never on though, I have DNA headlights and wired my LED strips into the fog lights so whenevr the fogs are on the DRLs are off.

Nice pair of SS by the way! That makes me miss my 06 TBSS :(

I was unaware of that, since I have a sensor on my dash I assumed it was just bad. Any threads about jumping those wires on one of the forums? Seems like I may as well just go with a rocker switch.

Edit: just found a thread on silvy/sierra forum... 1,5K ohm resistor on the gray and white wires on C3 BCM connector. Simple enough.

I’m basically between two wiring harnesses, meaning I have to decide whether I want to wire in H11 connectors or a rocker switch. I am leaning towards getting the harness with the 880/H11s and building a rocker switch onto it to avoid splicing/soldering behind the bumper where it’ll be exposed.
