Hello everyone. I bought a black 2001 Chevy Silverado 3500 crew cab lq4 in October 2024 and would just like to introduce my buy. I bought it at an auction that started off at $2000. Fortunately, I got it for $3200. When I drove it home, I realized that the engine had a slight rod knock, some bulbs were burnt out, needed major front suspension work, but it only had 57,500 miles. Apparently, the car was a previous crime scene (never really got the full details on that) and had damage on the front driver side fender that was replaced by a previous dealer that couldn't sell it, so they sent it to the auctions. Other than that dang rod knock, everything runs fine. I've replaced many parts since.

57,000 miles? Great buy, even if you need to replace the engine.
Curious (and ignorant & too lazy to look it up) - which engine does it have?
he said LQ4 (6.0) in the op.
which surprised me but I guess chevy did do the 6.0 in a dually.

welcome to the OP! what a steal. clean title issued?

Quick update. I found out it was one half of a thrust bearing that was missing! I found it mangled in the oil pan. I inspected the part of the crankshaft that was affected and there was no damage, grooves, etc, so I just installed a new one with some assembly lube. The slight knock is gone and the mild engine vibration is no more as well. 8k miles after, and it's driving awesome so it's enduring whatever clearance it has. Hopefully it doesn't spit it out anymore.

My apologies that I haven't uploaded any pics or sound clips. At the moment, I'm presently overhauling the front end. I'm also debating if I should buy a Hellwig 7269 for the rear since it has no sway bar.

Thrust bearing?! Yikes!

Did you replace that with the engine still in the truck? How difficult was that?

IDK about Hellwig bar on your truck. I would think the rear suspension is already pretty stiff being a dually? IDK?

Yes. I know I shouldn't have, but it's a temporary fix. I'm sure it'll need a complete teardown and rebuild, but I haven't had the time or money to do that. Fortunately it was the bearing cap part that was just missing. The portion from the engine block was still there. Very weird. The #1 reason why this happens is because of foreign material, so I'm sure the previous person used and abused it, plus, didn't change the oil as often as he should.

Gotcha.

On a lot of newer engines, they are now only using HALF of those thrust bearings shells...I have no idea why? It seems like a horrible idea to me TBH...
