Always wanted a diesel truck and this '06 Crew Cab Longbed Dually was too good to pass up. The good: - Price - LBZ - Interior condition - Bone stock - Was part of a tow fleet for a drift teams trailers so it was maintained well - All new stainless brake lines - Great tires, powder-coated wheels The bad: - Rusted rockers (rust belt problems), and peeling paint - Siezed turbo vanes - 5 bad glow plugs - 350k miles - Fuel leak (need some suggestions where to look) - Coolant leak (already can see it's at the heater core connections) So I JUST finished building a '96 1 ton, when I bought this truck last week. A link to it's build thread is below: https://www.gmt400.com/threads/96-c3500-rebuild-l29-nv4500-0411-swap-with-coil-per-cylinder.71214/ I wasted no time tearing into the LBZ and got the turbo off this weekend. An absolutely miserable job, but doable. I know some of you will call me insane, but I'm pulling the transmission next. I should have done that from the beginning because busting those bolts loose on the up-pipes was not fun. Had to do it from the passenger wheel-well. Since I'm in the rust belt I broke 6 of the 12 bolts. 3 in the turbo, 3 in the exhaust manifolds. :( With the trans removed everything is right in front of your face. I'll take that trade off all day. There was a huge mouse house in the valley along with 20 years of general filth. This was after I'd already cleaned a bit. Much better Here's the parts list I have so far: - Both thermostats - Thermostat gaskets - Breather re-route - Heater core hoses - Turbo heater hoses - Drain back gasket - Transmission filters and fluid - Turbo rebuild kit KC turbo - VGT solenoid KC turbo I'll be towing a 5th wheel camper in the summer with this, so I'm trying to balance needs vs wants. REALLY all I need to do is clean the vanes and put it back together, but I do think an EGR delete and breather re-route would be smart. I have HP tuners and can flash the PCM if I delete EGR. Suggestions?
