New '06 Tahoe Owner

Greetings everyone. Picked up an '06 Tahoe. I got it originally to yank the drivetrain and stick it in my '78 Suburban. The wife and I have fallen in love with it and it's too nice to do that to, so it's officially joined the fleet. 207k miles, runs great.

When I got it, the headliner was coming down just at the front by the windshield. Put it back up with some pins. Can't even see it. Fixed so far, front window tints, hatch lock actuator, oil pressure sensor, one DRL and one turn signal. I've got a trailer brake controller to install, new stereo and speakers coming, new hatch glass struts, and a passenger seat heater. Also have new fog lights coming, and I have the parts to convert the dash 12v sockets and DLC to ignition power instead of constant.

Welcome! Wow, that truck is so clean to be scrapped for the drivetrain. You did well deciding to keep it. That truck has plenty of life left.

You can probably sand that peeling areas of paint and do a budget spot repair and it will look decent. Is it just the fenders and the rear quarter panel?

It's both front fenders, passenger rear quarter, driver rear door, and driver's side roof where the top meets the back end of the roof rack. I'm not terribly worried about it as yet. It's the super common GM white paint failure. One of these days I'll take it down to my buddy's shop and hit it with compressed air to see how much peels off, then maybe throw some paint at it. Not 100% sure yet.

Beautiful GMT800 Tahoe. Might want to check for water leak at top of w/s. Sometimes that is what causes the very front of headliner to come loose.

How are the door hinge pins?

Doors all close correctly. No reason to suspect the pins. Don't have to lift to open or slam to close.

The headliner appears to just be due to the AZ sun. There's no sign of water intrusion. It did also rain pretty well a few times the last couple of days, and no signs of water.

Good. Yea, have heard of the AZ heat do that too but did not want to bypass possible water leak. The hinge pins are a know loose/play spot and I was not trying to connect the water leak to that. When the front doors are open, just slightly lift up and down at the end of door and see if can see/feel any play. If none, then all good. If there is some play, it will eventually get worse over time. My 2005 Tahoe has never had play but a friend's 2005 Tahoe did have driver's door play and I have a thread here about that. Her's has 192k miles on it.

Agreed. If you look though, the design is different and the Tahoe hinge pins require door removal.
