I am no expert but it may be nice for the more experienced guys to know some other factors. Tire size being number 1, your goal being number 2. Without these two minimum pieces of info it is near impossible to make recommendations.

but for fun poking sake I am going to throw an arbitrary number of 4:11 at you and just let that sit...:D

I have 33s and stock 3.73
And going to put 243 and custom grind cam later on and got some 4.8 flat tops or 5.7 pistons that i can choose from. Friend owns a shop and does alot of ls stuff so free pistons

What type of 33s are you running? I have 285/75r16s with 3.73s and I want 4.56s. LS motors love to rev and raising the place your truck cruises at wouldn't be harmful IMO. I would look into 4.30s or 4.56s if I were you.

talking about rearends going out, in my 1997, my rearend imploaded, and when i went to the junkyard to get another, i made a mistake and got a 4.10 instead of a 3.73...... big problem for my 4x4

My plans for my 2000 are to run a built motor(200k present if nothing else comes along) along with 295/75r16s and 4.88s just because these 5.3s make power at such high RPMs.
