RE: 2005 GMC Sierra 4dr ext cab 4x4 4.8L

Been having persistent knock sensor codes and black smoke on an occasional start-up (Also realized I’ve been having to add oil too frequently). Everything I found concering 2-3 seconds of smoke on startup suggested a leaking valve stem seal. So I got ready to tackle 2 jobs at once: knock sensors & valve stem seals.

So yesterday I got the intake off and found LOTS of oil inside the intake. I’m talking at least half a quart.

Read a little more, now it seems everything involving oil consumption & oil in the intake is a problem with the PCV valve, or lack thereof.

Got new knock sensors & harness installed.

Check out this vid:
I have the updated driver’s side valve cover with the permanent PCV orifice. The drain holes were basically plugged. I cleaned them out with gasoline (aka solvent) and I drilled holes as seen in the video.

I’m going to put this back together today without doing valve stem seals.

Any thoughts?
