Hello, I have a 2000 Silverado with a 4/6 drop and rear shock relocation kit running single adjustable rear qa1 shocks and qa1 Dubble adjustable front shocks. My question is, what would be a good starting point for my setting on the compression and rebound for the front shocks for the drag strip and what are some things to look for after setting them up to further tune them in? also I understand only having single adjustable rear shocks are not as tune able as the DA shock but, i would still like to hear you guys' thoughts or personal experience with you drag settings on your trucks. Thank you for your time. One last question, do you guys feel that you benefit from having a trailer hitch on your trucks when it comes to weight transfer and traction, or is it just unneeded weight?

I think @DateNight could chime in on this.

... I have Dubble adjustable front shocks on the front and single adjustable shocks on the rear. The instructions for the shocks state, for drag racing to set the front compression between 12-18 clicks from zero, and for rebound run 0-6 clicks. This is on every shock you buy from QA1... it's a default. My question was directed towards us guys with the 99-2004 Silverado trucks who have some experience with racing these trucks who may have a good starting point for my shock settings at the drag strip. The truck is a short box NBS. The other question was in regard to the trailer hitch, do you guys who have experience racing these trucks find that the hitch adds in weight transfer\ traction or does it just add additional unneeded weight? The rear shock is a single adjustable which state to set the knob between 4-8 clicks from zero for drag racing. Again, this is a default i was wondering what other Silverado owners have found that works for them or a good a starting point. Thank you all again i hope this gives more helpful info.

What tires are you running? Slicks or drag radials?

What’s kind of surface? Street? Prep? No prep?

Is it mostly a street truck, or a race truck?

Traction bars?

i added weight to the rear of my old s10. With the battery and extra weight it was around 100lbs

A good place to read about shocks is on yellow bullet.

Set the stocks up as recommended from qa1, maybe a little loose on the front to pick up the nose and hold it.

On the rear try them tight. See if it will make the tire bite harder. It’s like landing with your knees locked, it puts all the force on your feet. You want to try to do the same to your tires.

You can get lost in shock tuning, low hp vs high hp, slicks vs radials, trans brake vs foot brake, anti squat etc.

Yellow bullet is a drag racing forum. Tons of knowledge and reading, a lot of very high hp cars.

LOL yes, my knees felt that also. Thank you for the info ill check that site out. I'll start there and let you know how it goes. I know with the 100 shot @ a 1.5 sec delay it still spun a little off the line on stock shocks on a 2/4 drop so I'll try what you suggested and see what the truck does. the track around here opens up in about 2-3 weeks so I have plenty of time to get my stuff panned out. again, thank you for your time.
