I have been told the frame is the same on a 2wd and 4wd Tahoe. Now what is the truth to this.

Google has let me down and I don't know anyone with a 4wd tahoe.

I would think it would be. Why would the create 2 different frames for just the 4 wheel drive when its mostly suspension changes.

I'm not specifically sure on the Tahoe, but I know that the earlier year C1500 (like through '03 for sure) had a completely different front frame and suspension. 2wd is coil and 4x4 is torsion bar. But in the last couple years of production, the 2 wheelers had the same basic frame as a 4x4, with torsion bars and all.

Same thing with 2500 Suburbans and 2500/3500 trucks, but I don't remember if there was a year split. Maybe they ALL had the torsion bar frame? I can't remember for sure if the earlier ones did or didn't.

If I ever worked under a 2wd Tahoe, I don't remember it. I think they are basically all 4x4 around here.

But basically, if you have a torsion bar front suspension, yeah, you should be able to swap in a trans/t-case, front axle, half shafts and wheel bearings.

For a coil spring rig, I believe there's at least two companies that offer a bracket kit to mount a solid front axle.

No clue what years yours is.

Here is for a 2002, YES 2wd, and 4wd are the same. (15706 Tahoe/Yukon C/K)

Here is a 2005, (thinking, AT THE MOST that 99-02 might be one, and 03-06/07 might be another).

2002 and 2005 C/K SUV frames are the same. Don't hold me to it, but IT LOOKS LIKE all NBS short base SUV frames should be the same from 00-06 and 2wd to 4wd (based on 02 and 05 being the same). The longer SUV frames look to be the same from 2wd to 4wd. (* 2000 was a split year. They made OBS and NBS in 2000. I am only referring to NBS, just like 99, & 07 were split year for pickups).

What it also looks like is the 2wd and 4wd PICKUPS have different frames in the front. BUT, the SUV has the same FRONT frame as the 4wd pickup.

The 2wd and 4wd pickups seem to have the same frame rails, just a different crossmembers and mounting pads. (It looks if someone wanted to modify some of the frame mounts they could swap between 2wd and 4wd pickup). Same rails, different frame.
