are the things they slide on bent? if they are bent they are being smeared offHello all,
I've got a 2005 2500HD and I keep knocking off the little rubber triangle bumpers. Has anybody came up with a better solution to stop the tailgate from rattling?
Thanks Ray
There has to be a way to do what you think with the round ones.I work out of my truck so I think I'm just knocking them off loading in and out of the bed.
I say, drill the hole in the bed in the same spot where the stock bumpers hit and attach the round ones and they will hit the steel tab that the OE design hits.Been kinda thinking something like this. Drilled into the bed somewhere that hits a flat spot on the tailgate. Just didn't know if someone already skinned this cat with an easier way.
if you install where the tab touches, and then hammer the tab to be 45 degrees bent down, it will probably workThere has to be a way to do what you think with the round ones.

Or, same idea but use something like the bumper on the bottom of a pool stick and still drill a hole but run the screw in that holds the pool stick bumper and bolt the bumper in to place. May have to trim the pool stick bumper for a custom fit.
If I remember, I will look at mine tomorrow.
yes my tailgate striker wasnt in the right spot and closing it hammered them quite a bit back, i just used a channel lock to put it back then moved the strikerThose bumpers are to be here on the 27th. RA always seems to under promise and over deliver, as far as parts shipping time to me. I seem to be very lucky with that. I am not going to slip them on and call it good. I am going to come up with a "better mousetrap" and post that here. Those metal tabs, that the bumpers slide on to, are thick enough gauge, that I believe they can take some abuse if needed.
Either you or someone before you moved the striker, instead of replacing bumper rubber?yes my tailgate striker wasnt in the right spot and closing it hammered them quite a bit back, i just used a channel lock to put it back then moved the striker
I think I didnt put it in the right spot , i replaced a bushing on itEither you or someone before you moved the striker, instead of replacing bumper rubber?
Moving tailgate strikers is a rare thing, as far as I know.I think I didnt put it in the right spot , i replaced a bushing on it
But it could have been moved before, and i put it in the same spot when i reinstalled
I looked there and didn't see them, I'll have to look again. Those bumpers are to be here on the 27th. RA always seems to under promise and over deliver, as far as parts shipping time to me. Yes you need large torxMoving tailgate strikers is a rare thing, as far as I know.
Much like door strikers.Yes you need large torx
I moved my driver one in before to compress weather stripMuch like door strikers.
My driver's side tailgate bumper was missing. You could push it in and out and it would rattle but I never heard it while driving. Likely because the passenger side was still there. I just received the new Dorman ones, #45679, and easy to remove old one and install the 2 new ones. The old one was loose on the tab. The 2 new ones are tight and when I close the tailgate, there is no play in either side. Problem solved.I work out of my truck so I think I'm just knocking them off loading in and out of the bed.
