I have an 03 Yukon XL Denali...it has 115,000 miles and I was wondering if y'all recommend doing the tranny service or not...flush, filter, new fluid, that sort of thing...I do tow 6000 lbs. quite a bit, probably twice a month, sometimes up to 12 hours each way...

Some say if it ain't broke, don't fix it....others follow the vehicle manual...what say y'all?....

Don't let them do that, any debris or contaminants in the filter will be blown around the tranny and cause problems, best thing would be drop and change although most places don't want to do that to "old" vehicles and want to do flushes

If I'm not mistaken the way they do flushes now is through the transmission dipstick with pressurized something. All I see is stuff getting destroyed

The way they did it at the dealership I used to work at is the disconnected one of the transmission cooler lines, wherever was easiest to disconnect from, basically connect the machine between the two lines using hoses and fittings, one tank on the machine is new fluid with additive and the other pumps the old fluid into it. There is a little gauge on the machine making sure the flow direction is correct or you'd swap the lines around. You'd just run the machine till it beeps and then your done. Double check fluid level after.

Like stated above all I see is debris/contaminants getting pushed through different parts of the transmission. Why not spent an extra 30-45 minutes, purchase new fluid/filter/gasket and just drop the pan. Get all that nasty fluid out and put in a new filter increasing the life of your transmission.

I have talked to a few transmission specialists. None recommend doing transmission flushes (using a pump to pull old fluid out and push new fluid into the transmission until the fluid color "looks like new"). They recommend a pan drop and filter change. That's what I have done. I have a 2002 Chevy Tahoe, 2WD, 325CID, 3.73 final drive. 240K miles on original transmission.
