I used to tow a ton of equipment and have pics somewhere on my computer, but it's been years since I towed anything big with my '06.

This was what I towed from Idaho back home to Texas in June, when I brought my fiancé down here. Her CR-V and all her stuff. Right at 7700 lbs. between the car and all her stuff. The Silverado hauled everything without much complaint, with the exception of the Raton pass from Colorado to New Mexico. That sucked. 1st gear at 5400 RPM for nearly 5 minutes. I was concerned for the health of the motor, but she held together just fine.

With our new to us truck. There will never ever be a travel trailer attached to it. They are great for some and serve a purpose and people have fun with them. I worked in shops for 40+ years and 30+ was as a service manager/advisor/writer. I even wrote service for Monaco Motorhomes at one time, in Harrisburg, Or. Monaco main plant was just down the highway in Coburg, Or.

I wrote service for Class A and the trailers. I grew to hate them all. Never made as they should have been and IMO, very cheaply made. The people/owners that I dealt with were 80% turds and 20% ok. They could come in for service. I would write up their concerns. That night, in the camp lot where they were all at overnight, they would talk to each other and "gotta keep up with the Jones's" and if someone was in for a problem, all of a sudden, the next morning, a bunch of them had the same problems and wanted to add work to their service ticket. Each week was like that. each and every single efffffffin' week.

Give me an enclosed cargo trailer and let me build it the way I want. Give me a car hauler trailer and I will tow all day long but approach me about hauling a travel trailer and I will throw rocks at you. Also, towing with the wrong size hauler is against the law. Tow with the correct rig/truck.

Back in my racing days that how we built our race trailer. It was a 28ft enclosed trailer made by Competitive Custom trailer. It was 101” wide and had 8lug axles.

I couldn’t afford a race trailer with living quarters so We insulated ours and ran electrical, installed the largest roof mount a/c we could get. In the front it had a 55gal water tank with a tankless water heater. The shower was a full size corner unit that drained straight to the ground. When we would get to the races we would unpack, close the trailer back up, turn the A/C on and blow up the mattress.

Only thing a haul now is a open car hauler, and boat.
