Hey Guys
What is this part? I’m thinking of adding hydroboost to my 2003 z71 Silverado and wondering if this part is going to cause an issue if it’s on the way

I believe that's an auxiliary electric vacuum pump for the brake booster. It's connected to engine vacuum and then to the booster, right?

I've never seen one in person but that's what it looks like to me. Our 06's don't have that. So.. whether it can be simply removed, dunno.

I have seen those on performance engines that have gobs of horsepower but do not make as much vacuum needed for the vacuum boost of the brake system.

If you do a hydro-boost, I gotta ask, why? With a stock vacuum booster and the electronic booster, I would think the brakes are great.

But, I really have no idea what that part is. Can you ger more close up pics with all that is attached to it? Any part numbers on it?

Yes, that is exactly what that is. An electric motor driven auxiliary vacuum pump. My 03 suburban has it with a “smallish” vacuum booster. It’s supposed to assist when at high rpm’s… never paid attention to it until it started to fail lots of digging and no boost… I don’t race the ‘Burb so it is an odd addition, probably packaged with the factory tow package it’s set up with. Not cheap to replace and GM doesn’t support rebuilds any more. I’m replacing it with the larger booster that doesn’t have it, I’m doing the reaserch on how to defeat it electrically so the alarm won’t sound.
