Yeah thats the way all these trucks were sold, as cab and chassis, 2wd only. then they went to upfitters for the rest. Mine was a Verizon bucket truck and has a Verizon RPO when decode the VIN.

Even the rare "factory" quad cab trucks all decode to 2dr trucks. They were also sent out after being built, to get the cabs and the frame under the cab extended.
By any chance, is the information sticker on the door frame filled out on your truck? Mine is blank and you can't even feel any print on it. It's as if it was never filled out.

which info? i'll have to look
There's a sticker on the door frame that is usually completed with information such as date of manufacture, GVWR, Front axle weight limit, etc. That sticker is on the frame (inside the door) but, mine is as smooth as a baby's hind quarters. Doesn't look like it was ever completed and can't even feel any indentations where the letters/numbers would have been. So, I'm getting all of that sort of information from the Internet not off of the vehicle.
