2000 K1500 5.3 Fuel Pump Replacement

TLDR: Fuel pump may have kicked the bucket finally — still gotta check fuel pressure to confirm. Trying to find replacement and ACdelco does not have one listed?? That doesnt seem right. I checked rockauto and they have a couple options listed. Since this is a regular LM7 5.3 no e85 or anything it is an ext cab long bed (157.5” WB). Not sure which part number i should be using. I don’t have any of the RPO codes mentioned here:

Full Story:
So let’s just say we had a rough weekend with the 2000 Silverado. It started off with the check engine light coming on the day before my brother borrowed it to help his girlfriend move about 3 hours out of town this weekend. P0420 — ok that’s not shocking it is original cat’s and made it 26 years and over 300k miles. I’ll plan to look into it next week and get it taken care of. It will be fine to drive for this trip.

Well he made it to his destination, but called me when the oil pressure gauge dropped to near 0 at hot idle and got the check engine oil pressure warning on the DIC. It seemed to recover and but bounced up and down, did this a few times. No odd noises when raising engine about idle gauge goes up and seems to hold pressure. Oil just above halfway on hashed area of dipstick. At highway speeds (~2k RPM) it holds steady between 35-40psi. Anyways decided it’s probably the pickup tube oring and should be safe to drive back since it’s mostly downhill and an easy drive.

On his way back today made it the nearly 3 hours trip back and pulled off the highway and the truck died at a red light. Kinda coughed and died. Tried to restart but cranked over and sputtered but never fired up (while at the light got rear ended by a guy with no license or insurance — thankfully it was minor and he helped push it to the shoulder — i’ll deal with that later). He called me and I came over to check it out. Crank/sputter ran for a 2-3 seconds and stalled. so I’m thinking fuel pump. Got it towed home. Planning to get a fuel pressure gauge on it this week and confirm. But in the meantime I’m trying to find what options i have for fuel pumps and having a tough time narrowing it down. Anyone have any luck here or is my truck just an oddball and I’m gonna have to go aftermarket? Am I missing something? TIA

That has the EVA RPO code. Evaporative emissions. Has the fuel tank pressure sensor attached to the sending unit. That would be the ACD MU1613. The TCU or TCF body code means the code on the pump housing, not the truck. I believe all the TCF sending units are for the EPA RPO code.

This is what happens when I keep working on this stuff late at night. I swear I looked over that RPO sticker 10 times and didn't see that. haha. I figured it would be since it was sold in California. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

That is a good one, I have found parts on rock that were not otherwise listed for my truck.

Thanks for all the help. I know which fuel pump I would need, but apparently It's not the fuel pump. Put a gauge on the rail test port tonight and got 50psi at key on, stayed 45-48psi while cranking still sputtering and not starting.

Tested a few other times and cranked but no fire. Was thinking compression test but sure sounds like its got compression. Connected scan tool to check for crank signal -- crank signal ok still no fire.

Decided to hit the throttle a little and it coughed a bit more, then pushed throttle past half way and it sputtered and rev'd up to 3500rpm. Kept it revving there for 20 seconds or so and slowly lowered it back to idle. blipped the throttle a few more times and it returned to idle just fine. Put in gear, moved forward, backwards, back to park idles just fine, smooth like normal. Shut it down, restarted just fine and runs normal. Tried it 4-5 more times without any hiccup. o_O


So did we get a bad tank of fuel that drove fine for the last nearly 300 miles over a few days and caused issues in the last 1/4 tank after getting off the highway for 150 mile drive. Seems odd. Maybe watered down gas? IDK I feel like im grasping at straws here.

I'll try and see if it starts and runs fine over the next few days before I trust driving it too far.

Puzzler...maybe an intermittent injector is leaking, causing a flooded condition?

Next time it won't fire, crank with the gas pedal pressed all the way in. That'll put it into clear flood mode briefly cuts off fuel to the injectors. If you have a bidireccional scanner, try to do an injector balance test.

Fuel pressure bleed off when sitting long enough. Try letting sit overnight and then, in the morning, turn key to run position but do not crank engine. Let it sit in run position and then crank and start. If always starts, you likely do have a leaking injector, like @stutaeng said or bleed down at pump. If was a fitting or line, I would assume you would smell gas. Or consider what @99Sierra2500 said. If is a leaking injector, then you may smell gas in the oil, at dipstick. Plus, oil will need changed from gas in oil.
