new to the site... got a 2003 silverado 4x4 4.8 ext cab that has been in our family for 19 years now..
it had 30,000 on it when we bought it and has really been used got 281,000 now... for about 10 years we had our own band
and we hauled sound equip everywhere playing gigs. and i was driving about 21 miles one way to work everyday.
she's been a good truck for sure.
i was a repair mechanic on 18 wheelers for 42 years working mostly in a pit 24 inches tall doing alignments and frame straightening.
among other related repairs..... in our shop me and another guy had to be able to do it all.

but these computerized trucks and cars today are soul searching to work on for sure !!!!!!!

Welcome! Good looking truck. 4.8L trucks don't usually get much love, but they seem to live forever.

What axle gear does it have in it?

Welcome. I haven’t had many issues with the 4.8 in my 04. I see your in NC. Where abouts? I spent 7 years in Greenville. My truck came from a dealer in New Bern.

don't know ,,,just guessing its 342 ,, it clocks about 1850 rpm at 58 to 60 mph so i don't think its a 373. i will have to look to make sure ... good question though.

Pop open the glovebox.
GU5 = 3.23
GU6 = 3.42
GT4 = 3.73
GT5 = 4.10
4.10'd be best for metro/urban & towing MpGs, as well as the 4L60E's longevity between rebuilds.
