Guys I'm new here so please excuse what might be a total newb question. I've got a 05 Tahoe Z71 with NO Stabilitrack or traction control button located below the radio on the dash. Its my understanding that the Z71 was equipped with the G80 and not equipped with TC and that only the 2WD trucks had such a system. My question however is that I do see a number of 05/06 Tahoe Z71's that do appear to have a TC button on the dash in the place below the radio, so was it a 05/06 option after all? If so, would it be a matter of installing the button/panel and having the car refreshed? Just curious more than anything.

Welcome to the forum from Oregon.

I have an 05 Tahoe Z71 with the traction control button and it also has hydro-boost but my 04 K2500HD does not have the traction control.

Is your Tahoe with hydro-boost or vacuum assist brakes?

I don't have an 05 manual, but most of these type options are module based. I would think you would need the module and wiring harness at a minimum.
yeah I may very need a module of sorts. Seems like basically everything should already be in my truck however. Drive by wire throttle body and ABS. Curious more than anything.

None of my gmt800s have traction control or stabilitrak (2 are 2wd and one is 4x4), but our '20 Express passenger van does have stabilitrak.

I can't remember what the manual says about stabilitrak? Something about applying strategic braking if it detects are are about to lose control or something like that?

Just curious why you think you need it? I created a thread on TYF about this. I thought it was for model years 2004 only: https://www.tahoeyukonforum.com/thr...th-vehicles-with-optional-stabilitrak.146603/

But that thread states the G80 was not available with stabilitrak, not the other way around?

Fun fact: when we bought our van a few years ago, my oldest son (he was like 8 or 9 then) asked if the button for stabilitrak with the sliding wheels was the "drifting" button. I think he'd watched The Fast and Furious or something :)

I don't think I need it for any reason really. Just curious more than anything. In the original sales brochure it does mention that TC is only available in 2wd and so when I see some 4wd examples out there with TC? Stabiltrack it just lead me down the rabbit hole.

Does that mean that the TC only works when the 4x4 vehicle is in 2wd or that TC only is offered as an option on 2wd vehicles?

As I understand it, and according to the original sales information, only 2wd models of the Z71 Tahoe could be optioned with TC. The 4wd models with the Z71 package came with the G80 rear locking differential. What's confusing to me is that it does appear that certain 2005 and 2006 4wd Z71 models did have a TC switch on the dash and thus could be optioned with TC which conflicts with the original sales brochure.
