Yes, it's possible to swap a cateye from into a Tahoe/Suburban. I've seen a few swapped around here: https://www.google.com/search?clien...HRlTBR8QtKgLegQIGRAB&biw=412&bih=767&dpr=1.75

And in Mexico GM actually did produce SUVs with the cateye clip. I'm not sure why they kept the bubble front clip on the 03-06 SUVs in the States TBH?

The one I always forget about is that all 1500 Silverados in 2006 got the HD clip. So basically GM swapped an HD clip for free on the 1500 06 and 07 classics. Pretty cool.
I suppose choosing to reduce part production for the final 2 years so they didn’t have to make 2 till the end

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Especially because they were winding down GMT800 production by then I assume.

As for the SUVs not getting the cateye clip, maybe because they are assembled in a different plant? I don't even know where my 04 and 06 Suburbans were assembled...Arlington, TX? IDK.

That quick mention in the article about the Intimidator, I'm reasonably sure that other than the specific cosmetic differences from a Silverado SS, it's the same mechanically as an SS - 100%. Having owned both for many years and only recently sold the Intimidator.

Differences between the Silverado SS Intimidator and a Silverado SS - and I'll try to note any non-OEM items just for historical reasons:

Badging - Intimidator emblem next to SS emblems on doors, which offsets the normal placement of the SS emblems - (non-OEM items in this pic are the headlights and park lights with the clear reflectors, and grille emblem painted black, would be the normal gold emblem) ... also I am fairly certain the trucks all came with the chrome SS design wheels standard, instead of optional. (The regular SS trucks had these wheels in painted silver and could have optional chrome.)

Intimidator emblem on tailgate (tailgate emblem is slightly smaller) again offsets the normal placement of the SS emblem (pic is fresh out of the paint shop but 100% original placement of emblems) - also NASCAR-inspired wing on tailgate, 3 pieces - tailgate and bed corners

BTW the Intimidator emblems are a raised emblem with a soft contour, there are fakes out there in the cheap vinyl with the raised clear on top (the kind that melt with heavy sun exposure) and aren't the correct 2 different sizes. The smaller tailgate emblem has been near-unobtainium for several years and I wouldn't be surprised if the door emblems have since followed. Here's a set of originals, pic from seller (many years old)

Intimidator SS emblem on dash filler panel (Moon Pie non-OEM item but is best flavor, banana)

"Dale Earnhardt" signature image on tachometer

DEI logo embroidered on front seat headrests instead of SS logo
06SS_016s.jpg

Grille mesh is silver instead of black (non-OEM items again w/clear reflector lenses, and the chrome grab handle exterior door handles from an Escalade, grille emblem missing)
06SS_060es.jpg

Driver door jamb sticker indicating trademark info for Intimidator logos, signature, etc. just barely visible in this pic, under tire information sticker
06SS_010.jpg

Certificate of Authenticity - numbered certificate came with all the Intimidators; this one is not from my truck as unfortunately it was lost. Seems to happen with a lot of them, I suspect many stayed with the original owner. This pic was just found on the web:
06SS_COA.jpg

RPO code which is where the rubber meets the road. A lot of SS's have been faked and a few Intimidators have been faked. The parts are popular.. trucks get stolen, parted out, clones made, often in regular cab form which GM never offered. BUT, they can't fake the RPO code that indicates the Intimidator/Dale Earnhardt package from GM, which is RPO SSI. You could fake a SPID label if you tried hard enough, but running the VIN through a decoder would indicate quickly whether it's legitimate. - SSI SALES PACKAGE SILVERADO SS, DALE EARNHARDT, INTIMIDATOR EDITION DALE EARNHARDT INTIMIDATOR SILVERADO SS EDITION(SSI) 933

And I've heard they could/would come with Intimidator-logo embroidered floor mats, but I've never seen them. Possibly an aftermarket item, who knows?

I think that's it, LOL

my 1996 C1500 was a silverado,

but as stated it was a trim level.
it being silverado meant it had Options over the base models
I didnt know the 03-06 tahoe/suburban didnt use the cateye front end. im sure people have swapped?
already knew the tail lights didnt change, because they had different tail lights to begin with

My 2005 Tahoe Z71 has the bubble lights Never seen a GMT800 Tahoe/Suburban with cat eye. I did also own a 2002 Avalanche with cat eye.

As far as the 1500 Silverados in 2006 being badged as HD. That used to be for the 1500 HD's that had 3/4 ton components. Did that mean that the 1500 HD Silverado had 1/2 ton components but still showed HD?

Swapping the bubble lights to a cat eye truck? I guess so but have to change the hood too, right?

No, it was just the HD grill IIRC. Not 3/4 drivetrain components or anything like that. I wasn't talking about 8 lug 1500HDs BTW, those are complete different animals. The 1500s just got the HD clip, that's it. I believe the radiator support was also changed? Let me find a reference that talks about that. Maybe Wikipedia mentions it?

Yes, to swap a bubble headlights to cateye, you swap the hood, clip, headlights and fenders. Again, I think some other matching stuff like radiator support.

Kind of like "Heavy Duty Shocks". Absolutely no shock company advertises "light duty shocks".

From Wikipedia:

"For 2006, the Silverado received another slight revision, and all models received the grille and hood that were introduced on the previous year's 2500HD and 3500 models (the Sierra remained unchanged). In addition, the Chevrolet logotype emblem on the bottom-right of the tailgate was removed (though base-trimmed models still had the larger Chevrolet logotype decal on the tailgate). Its SUV counterparts, the Suburban, Tahoe, and Yukon/Yukon XL, retained the use of the pre-facelift sheet metal (except in Mexico). The LT trim became available on regular cabs, The Sportside bed was also discontinued for 2006."

Praise dale

Also, where did you get the turn signal housings I like that clear

Also a 15-20 Silverado badge would be at home on the grille
I put billet bowties on both trucks pretty soon after getting them.

The clear reflector signals came from ebay. Quality as usual wasn't great. The signals started flaking the chrome inside. They'd be good donors if one wanted to go to the trouble to bake a set of OEM headlights and signals open, and transplant the clear reflectors. I stuck 'em on the shelf, they're not doing me any good.
