I’m having an issue with my transmission when starting the truck.

Every time I start the truck, let it warm up to operating temp, but I still have to start driving as if it’s a manual, 1st, 2nd then third then I can go to drive. After that the truck will typically stop and start driving fine, shifts on its own. Just curious what may cause this issue.

You have to manually shift the gears? Is that what you are saying?

And then you get to a stop, the truck will shift automatically?

Strange! Never heard of those symptoms. That thing sounds like an automatic transmission, but identifies as a manual...

It’s the 5.3 engine and honestly whatever the original transmission is.
Ok, let's try this again. Year of vehicle? You gave us the engine size. RPO code for transmission is either M30 for a 4L60E or MN8 for the 4L80E. The RPO code sticker is on the glove box cover.

That sounds odd! Year, motor, and transmission type please? I think we will find the answer on Nick Transmissions Youtube channel. He comes in and helps us a lot in the GMT400 forum.
