Slow crank issue - FIXED

Having the wrong series battery should have been addressed anyway. That is a lot of oil leakage there. How do you know it is from the RMS? that oil could be from back of intake, back of valve covers or oil pressure sender.
Looks like the starter heat shield is there. That is a plus.

mechanic (i trust) confirmed it's rear main seal last time he did the oil change on it after I asked him to look it over and confirm where it's coming from. but i suppose it could be from somewhere else harder to see

oil leak has been about 3/4 of a quart 2000 miles in.

good to hear on the heat shield, I was thinking heat soak on the starter but weird that it would pop up now.. my cats have been rattling lately during warm up imagine they're on their way out but they didn't look hotter than normal or glowing when i crawled up under there, and the truck drives fine no CEL

think engine oil on the starter might be causing it? I could hit it with some engine degreaser and try to clean it all up with a brush

The oil gets in the solenoid and at the starter drive gear. I would be curious how the mechanic confirmed that it is a RMS leak? Did you ask the steps he took to verify that?

makes sense.. solenoid is on top and looks a little cleaner?

didn't ask him how, but i know he didn't clean it all up and put dye in the oil or do anything like that.. used his trained eye i guess

You can remove an inspection cover or a portal cover at the transmission bell housing and look in there for oil flinging out on the flex plate surface or use a borescope in there.

Can’t replicate the issue, cranks and starts completely normal now. Cleaned up the starter anyways. Thanks for all the help we’ll see how the next few days go

She’s FIXED. And thank goodness all she needed was a [correct] battery

Fully agree!! Kept my 93 bronco EFI/drivetrain and even radio, and all my other vehicles stock for the most part, for that reason

If I look at a vehicle/truck to buy and stock radio is gone, I count off $500 right then.

Feel free. I don't like lifted, lowered, non stock radio, swapped out stock style seats, cold air intake, supercharger, turbo........etc. Give me stock and let me make stock slightly better with a tune and replenish the stock components and make it handle and brake as it should and feel good on long drives.

I've had a similar issue with my suburban. I noticed if i turn it on but wait 5 seconds before cranking it fires right up nice and strong. I assume that gives the ECM a chance to adjust whatever it might need to. Immediately trying to crank it up results in weak or slow starting of the engine no matter the outside temperature

Your scenario sounds like fuel pressure bleed off when parked and then the fuel pressure primes again when you leave the key on for 5 seconds before cranking engine.

That 5 seconds is your fuel pump priming and getting your fuel system to optimal fuel pressure, ideal for cold starts or if the vehicle has sat for a little bit

You can hear the pump priming with the key ON (not START)
