Hi all, Just thought I would share this in case anyone is in need of an alternator. The reman one made it 10 years or so, but it was on its last legs. These trucks mainly came with either an ad230 or ad244 alternator. The early year ad244 was rated at 130 amps while the later trucks got 145 amp ad244. This Bosch is rated at 130 amps and was quite a bit less expensive than the 145 amp Bosch. With the 20% off online order code through The Zone it was cheaper than many options on RA, with free shipping and a lifetime warranty. New, not reman. Now, my 04 has crank windows and manual locks, so I took a chance and figured my WT model didn't need the additional 15 amps. It has been installed for about a month now with no issues to report. Hope I can help someone else save some cash!

that alternator is a AD244 variant , just without the Delphi Automotive Systems on the front of the case and probably sourced other internals , but its design including the electrical looks Delphi.

The bosch units youre thinking of were electrically different but used , to my understanding, the same 4 pin plug.
Same thing as the denso alternators used in the 3800s after 2003 or so

Amazon says its a 145 amp (the bosch you bought) so you likely have a 144milimeter stator AD244 functionally

Gosh, I totally forgot about those early GMT800 OE bosch units! You are completely correct, this is not an OE Bosch style unit. The one I installed is Bosch made copy of the OE Delphi AD244. New and manufactured in USA, which was sort of a surprise. I've leaned towards bosch the past few years as others quality has fallen off. They seem to make good quality parts, or at least put quality in the box. I installed a Bosch fuel pump assembly in the 03 Mustang that had a Walbro stamp right on the hanger.

The strange part about this aftermarket Bosch AD244 variant is that it is not listed as compatible with my 04 anywhere. Here is the compatible "Applications" according to Summit.

And then here is the product specs from Bosch's website which lists it at 130 amps.

I punched in a few more OE Part numbers. Looks like the current exchange part being offered (for Bosch AL8731N) from GM is #19244746. Application 2000-2003. Here's a link to GM parts

No idea what they changed after 2003. I am also wondering if this is just a marketing mistake on Bosch's behalf (making only a 145amp to supersede older 130amp applications, but then accidentally labeling it only a 130amp).

Sounds like a fair reason, or could be they were putting the wrong cutoff for the 2pin era, started in 05

Edit I think I know why.

SBA

supplemental brake assist

If you have that in your vehicle let me know, but when you get time can you put the dvom on the “p” terminal of the alternator while running, there should be SMALL ac voltage and it should increase a bit with rpm, and none when engine is off.

If it does all that, it’s compatible with the 03-05 for sure

It also was used for an “engine running” on trucks with supplemental brake assist vacuum pumps on vacuum brake gmt800, and used for engine hour meters wherever that is desired

Some alternators are not wired for it internally but most are
Little details on that: "P" stands for "phase". The P terminal is connected to one of the stator phases, upstream of the rectifier; this is why you get an AC signal.
It was used by older diesels (that didn't have engine computers) to run the tachometer.

Also a fun ancillary fact, alternators are usually 3 phase power and if you set it up right can be a welder :)

Subject:Incorrect Amp Code On Generator

Models:2003-2004 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Escalade EXT
2003-2004 Chevrolet Avalanche, Express, Silverado, Suburban, Tahoe
2003-2004 GMC Denali XL, Savana, Sierra, Yukon, Yukon XL
2003-2004 HUMMER H2

The purpose of this bulletin is to inform the technician of an incorrect Amp code stamped on the generator. The code on the side of the generator reads 130 A and it should read 145 A. The 130 A has been stamped on the generators in error and does not indicate the actual amperage of the generator. A 130 A generator is not produced for this vehicle. The correct replacement for the above vehicles is the generator with the 145 A marking.
