I went to buy CV axles for our 2001 Yukon XL K1500 5.3l today and all the ones on Rock Auto, Amazon, Auto Zone, and O'reilly's have between 9 to 14% bad reviews. Not seeing any AC Delco ones anywhere. A lot of the reviews were the parts failing in a month or year, some blowing apart when not in 4x4.
Any ideas on quality CV axles? We 4x4 a LOT in Alaska.

I found the GM complete axle assembly for the right side, #26069252. Left side #26069244.

Another odd thing is a lot of aftermarket state the same part number for left and right.

I imagine installing a right where a left belongs (or vice versa) might explain things blowing apart after a season.

Reminder: Plunge joints dont wear much, thats the inside joint by the axle. The outer CV is what wears. GM sells the CV joint as a stub with the boot , youd just have to regrease or at least seal the boot on the shaft and reassemble. I can get the directions to rebuild it if you want

Loosen the bolts and remove the halfshaft assembly from the tool.

Why did I have to look at this thread a few days back? My driver CV just started clicking :(

Anyway, I think there are three I am looking at buying, but I am going to swab the axles side-to-side first.

Moog 10H001
Precision GM8033C
Cardone 66-1009

The first two have thermoplastic outboard boots and should last longer. As far as I know, GMT400 axles are the same. Some have the additional sensor ring.

Stay away from Cardone.

Moog probably is what I would pick, I have had pretty good luck with their stuff.

if its clicking, why not just replace the worn CV end with a GM original part?1779043566410.png1779043577533.png1779043585774.png

9 to 14% bad reviews.

I enjoy reading the bad reviews. Some are so dumb, like "did not fit my Jetta had to go back for a different one" etc Then you get 1 star reviews for shipping problems. The 5 star reviews are done the same day they installed it and it went easy. So i dont really put much weight in them myself.

I just stumbled across these. Wondering if anyone has experience with them?

Mainly because my rig is approaching 300k miles. I'd prefer to install a high quality new part for the piece of mind. Otherwise, that is a great idea!

Plunge joints wear very little, it’s usually just the end cv that wears a lot.

Understandable. I think I would rather just change the axles instead of attempting to work on these ones right now. Could they be okay? Maybe. But my 800 is quickly approaching 300K miles, and I think I would rather just put in some quality new axles and be done with it. Surely someone has to build a good CV axle

This video helped me rebuild the front end on my Tahoe:

He had his OE Axles rebuilt by https://www.cvsource.com/

I have no experience with CV Source. Just throwing this out there...

I used the GSP NCV10142XD on the '95. They've been OK so far (~15K Miles). Supposedly the boots are made from a "Cold Resistant Rubber"...

I saved my old Axles, just in case I decide to rebuild them or have them rebuilt some day...
