Thank you!
DO NOT LUBRICATE THE CABLES.

unless you have a fully synthetic PTFE tye lubricant, anything else will probably swell/break it down

Recommend the OEM brake hoses signifcantly over the aftermarket

View attachment 4965

this is an OEM hose, but the aftermarket i had was a slightly smaller hose, shorter by an inch or 2 which caused ti to pull tightly in turns (2500HD, maybe wouldnt on a 1500) and the bracket was cheap

You're correct about swelling, which is why I suggested motorcycle cable lube if it was going to be done. Those are formulated to prevent breakdown.

I've got brake lines on order and plan to replace all four corners, plus the flex line to the rear diff.

If I end up doing calipers, are the AutoZone/O'Reilly's reman units decent, or is AC Delco the better route? I always get a little hung up on the "lifetime warranty" marketing that the big box parts stores love to push.

Happy New Year!

Unless you step all the way up to a new caliper, rebuilds are hit and miss. I'd get the cheap rebuilt ones locally and give them a good check in the store before I left. Bring a few tools with you to remove the pins and check the bushing bores. Check where the banjo goes. Check the outer seal to see if it's bunched up weird. If those all look good, send it.

I used to work for Checker Auto back when. Even then, it was not unheard of for "rebuilds" to only be half done.

Generally, for things that I can wait a bit to get delivered, I use almost exclusively Rockauto. They have the best prices, and usually OEM like GM Genuine or AC Delco. Use our 5% code coupon.

I've never bought calipers before so I can't say for sure.

Right on! I've never purchased anything from them, as I wasn't sure how the return process works if the wrong part is sent. Would you mind sharing the coupon code so I can take advantage of it? Appreciate the info!

I've never had them send me a wrong part. Been buying from them for about 6 years or more.

Recently, UPS lost a hydroboost for my Suburban. I put a claim with UPS, but the issue wasn't resolved. I finally put a claim with Rockauto and got a new part within 2 days. I was pretty impressed with RA TBH.

You can buy some parts for 40 to 60% of local parts store prices usually. If you look into the closeout tab, there are often bargains on things like brake pads, etc.

You can always do a "search" at top right for "discount codes" and the threads will pull up with the codes. I post them there all the time.

I’ve had the threads for the slide pin be damaged and the slide pin included that was clearly bent significantly. Reused the original and used a tap to fix thread

I hadn't heard that one before. Jeebus. Yet another reason to check those "rebuilds".
