Yes, you can reflash the original tune. LT1swap (and others online) should be able to reprogram your VIN, engine, based on RPO code, rear axle ratio, etc. Depending on where you live, there may be local folks that can also do this with HP Tuners or EFI Live.

I ordered a ECU replacement for my wife's Chrysler minivan a few years ago because the original one did not command the alternator to charge. I ordered it from Flagship One, and even though they ask for the VIN, I got the wrong one because I had all kinds of codes. Took me a while to figure it out. They sent me another one as "warranty" though. And that one is working just fine. They specialize on ECUs, so I'm sure you can also order from them for the GMT800s.

I think that depends on the tuner used, a lot of them license the computer so your stuck with that until the same programmer licensed changes it. I think programs like PCM Hammer can do it no matter what. Do you have the base tune file?

You can do either. Reprogramming is easy enough. Even if you got one from a junkyard, you'd need the programmer to change the VIN. There are lots of factory tune files floating around the interwebs.
