So if you have ever had a square body, you know what im talking about . when opening the door, the latch should rotate outward and be ready to be closed by the action of opening the door.

my driver latch is not doing this. The coated latch fingers are wearing, and ive slammed it into the striker a few times full force.

I had 2 springs poking out of the latch hole that actually requireed to be yanked out so i could move it. im guessing they helped ensure it opens all the time.

Not sure why or how its failing... but how hard is it to replace?

They're not too bad. Pull the door card, disconnect the inside and outside handle rods and the lock rod. IIRC, three screws hold the latch in place. Remove and replace. Reconnect rods and reassemble. Trap for new gamers is not making sure the outside door lock engages correctly on the latch, then you can't unlock it. Done that before.
