I recently bought a beautiful single owner 2002 Yukon. Immaculate condition, low miles, never been towed with (doesn't even have a hitch!) just overall great. However, the HVAC mode actuator failed. I confirmed by pulling the old one (pain in the ass), opening it, and seeing the cracked gear. Bought a replacement and lord almighty I cannot get this thing back in. A huge part of it is I can't see what I'm doing so I can't seem to line up the plastic door levers for the recirculated air and defrost setting. And I can't see because the duct that blows air into the driver's side floorboard.

Does anyone know how to get this thing out? It seems like I should just be able to pull down and out but there has to be a bolt I'm not seeing. I did pull out the equivalent vent on the passenger side that was bolted in thinking maybe that was the issue but no luck.

Also, does anyone know what this sensor is attached to the duct? I'm worried I was a little too rough on it while trying to get the duct out. It looks like it's part of the same wiring harness for the door actuator.

Thanks for any help in advance. This is so frustrating.

It's a tight fit for sure. I replaced it on my 99 Silverado way back around 2011 or so. I don't believe my truck has that vertical bar (brace) you have, so it may have been somewhat easier to get there.

I do remember buying the dorman actuator at the local parts store and it didn't work, so I returned it. I found this small local store that sold AC Delco parts and that one came with the door as part of tge actuator. It's been working fine since then.

1/4" drive with an extension and universal joint is what i remember using on the small bolts.
