I hope this is the right place for this. I'm new to this forum. I have a 2004 Tahoe 5.3 flex. It recently started to die randomly while driving. When it does, it acts like it ran out of gas. It will restart after sitting for a minute and run fine. Sometimes it will die again after a few miles and sometimes it will keep going. I replaced the fuel filter thinking that could be the problem, but that did not fix it. There are no fault codes, so I'm kind of at a loss as of where to start looking. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the group. Hope you get it figured out. You should definitely start with a fuel pressure check as ORVietVet says. You may need to be creative with the gauge if it only dies while driving. If it is fuel pressure, it could be the pump, pump housing, fuel sock, pressure regulator...

Regarding fuel pressure, just to echo the others. There is a spot on the rail for attaching a fuel pressure gauge. I'd route that between the hood and cowl so that I can observe while driving.

I just went through this experience while being 1400 miles from home. ‘02 Suburban 5.3 with recent fuel filter & pump replacements, about 30,000 miles ago. Did some research and found a local mechanic willing to discuss the logic and potential solutions for a dreaded “intermittent” stalling issue. We decided to change the crankcase position sensor. Test drove about 100 miles with no stalling. Then drove home with no stalling so the CPS seems to have been the culprit. On the way home I did have to replace a recently replaced alternator and now I’m throwing a P0300 code, but those are stories for another day.
