Hello all,
I’m new here. I’ve been a member of gmt400 for a while with my 96 standard cab short bed I’ve been redoing. Last year I bought a 2002 2wd 2500 standard cab long bed that had 100,000 miles on it. I bought it for the sole purpose of using the 6.0 and 4L80 2wd tranny in my 96. I haven’t gotten around to ripping it out yet. The other day I came across a new body style 2000 2500 4x4 with an awesome v-plow for almost nothing. The truck isn’t worth much, it’s very rusty, interior is beat, but the plow is worth more than I paid for the truck. I’ve tried doing some searches and haven’t came up with much info. How hard would it be to swap the diff and all 4wd components to the 2wd truck? Some say the frames are different, some say the only difference is 1 mounting tab. Have any of you done this? Since I already have a complete donor vehicle it seems as long as the axle ratios are the same, it wouldn’t be that difficult. I have a plasma cutter and welding skills. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
