Greetings fellow GMT800 owners,

my name is Niclas, 26 from Germany.
Sincen 10/24 i own a Chevy Silverado SS MY2005 made in late '04.
It's got a true dual MagnaFlow exhaust system, everything else is stock.
Carfax is clean, truck was running in Florida for 2 years before it was exported to the netherlands. From there it came to Germany at some point.

Even though the truck has been in Germany for years i am having troubles with vehicle inspection. In the EU it is mamdatory to have a vin stamped on the frame. My registration states it is located on the front right of the frame.
I've looked and removed undercoating... nothing from the front to the end of the passenger door. Inspector wont let me pass without it. Until found or re-stamped (which requires a permit from "DOT") it is basically considered illegal.

Maybe you guys can help me out here, who do i have to contact to get the exact location of the vin?

To my knowledge, these trucks do NOT have the VIN stamped on the frame (althoughthey do have a code which I believe pertains to cab/bed type?), but I may be wrong. I can look at my GMT800s later and hopefully someone else can chime in on the question...

Thanks for your reply stutaeng. That is actually an important information. I did indeed find a laser engraved number stating the year and part number i guess. It is exactly at the position where the VIN on other trucks i have seen on the internet is (about center of the passenger door).

My VIN is 2GCEK19N751162451.

Since this is actually an introduction Post i probably should tell you more about my truck.
As you guys mentioned it is looking good, but that's just the outside.
The dutch really should not own tools, i had to fix alot of wiring since they badly installed cheap amazon head- and taillights. Same applies to the aftermarket android radio, the wiring was hurt, data-BUS wires untwisted causing my left speaker to buzz. The list could go on...

I stated it was stock, but i did improve minor technical aspects though.
- slightly larger front disc brakes, swapped to the 2WD versions which fit plug and play with new calipers (i am not pleased with the quality of AC-Delco calipers)
- added a Webasto 5.2kW water heater to eliminate cold starts. Problem is, it preheats to 140°F which causes DTC P0116. I reduced the preheating time to 20mins and then start it again manually once the engine is running. This decreases the temperature difference between coolant and airtemp sensor so it does not set the code.
-coated the underbody with FluidFilm

major repairs so far:
-new rear axle wheelbearings / seals / c-clips
-tried to overhaul the transfer case, actually could use a new front case half, everything else apart from the viscous clutch and planetery gear is new
-replaced all u-joints and rear slipyoke
-new engine oil cooler lines
-replaced light bulbs of cluster, ac control unit and steering wheel

The Dutch? That's Holland or whatever they are called now, right? In the last World Cup I realized they are now called in Spanish "Paises Bajos" from "Holanda," which literally translates to "Lower Countries". My initial impression was that Lower translated to like lower class or something, but I guess it has to do with elevations? IDK That's still a dumb name if you ask me. And looks like they also changed their flag?! LOL...Geez! And can't wrench either, huh?!

Anyways, note to self: Never buy a Chebby the Lower Countries. Got it!

Yes, the 2WD version which got sold later since the AWD SS didnt sell good had drum brakes in the rear and slightly larger front discs (I believe 1" more in diameter)
I assume the "lower country" thing is due to the translation. In german they are called "Niederlande" which literally means "lower country" based on the fact that they are below sea level i suppose.

Ich habe nachgesehen und den Unterbodenschutz entfernt... nichts von der Front bis zum Ende der Beifahrertür. Der Prüfer lässt mich ohne ihn nicht durch. Solange er nicht gefunden oder neu abgestempelt wird (was eine Genehmigung des Verkehrsministeriums erfordert), gilt er im Grunde als illegal.

Vielleicht könnt ihr mir ja weiterhelfen, an wen muss ich mich wenden, um den genauen Standort der Fahrgestellnummer zu erfahren?

Hello Marco, the truck already failed inspection and they already made an official report. So if i go to someone else, that report will pop up as soon as they enter my license plate and i am back to square one.

I checked the driver side framerails again and removed some undercoating in the wheelwell... i found this engraved number which is upside down behind the front left wheel.
It is still not my VIN

Ich habe die Rahmenlängsträger auf der Fahrerseite nochmals überprüft und etwas Unterbodenschutz im Radkasten entfernt... dabei habe ich diese eingravierte Nummer gefunden, die hinter dem linken Vorderrad auf dem Kopf steht.
Es ist immer noch nicht meine Fahrgestellnummer.

Das ist die Teilenummer deines Rahmens. Falls du mal Einschweißteile brauchst

Ich habe alle Informationen online eingesehen, auch dieses Video. Es ist nicht da, ich suche nicht weiter danach. Ich lasse den Behörden ein neues ausstellen.

Aber wie hat er den vorher TÜV bekommen? Er muss ja auch ein Gutachten zur Inbetriebnahme bekommen haben. Da müsste es eigentlich drinstehen.

Probably the same way yours has, inspector couldnt care less about searching. He took a look at the badge behind the windshield and thats it. My Registration states: "VIN behind windshield left and front right frame". Doesnt matter now anyways, i will try to get a permit to let them stamp a new one.

Vermutlich war es bei dir genauso, dem Prüfer war die Suche völlig egal. Er hat sich nur kurz das Typenschild hinter der Windschutzscheibe angesehen. In meiner Zulassungsbescheinigung steht: „Fahrzeugidentifikationsnummer (FIN) hinter der linken Windschutzscheibe und vorne rechts am Rahmen“. Spielt jetzt sowieso keine Rolle mehr, ich versuche, eine Genehmigung für einen neuen Stempel zu bekommen.

Soweit ich weiß, brauchst da nur zu einer DEKRA oder TÜV Prüfstelle, dort machen die das. War bei meiner Frau ihrem ML genauso.

Nein das ist wohl nicht mehr so. Ich brauche eine Einschlaggenehmigung von der Zulassungsstelle (Aussage Dekra) Mit der gehe ich dann zur Dekra und die schlagen das ein.
