Steering box!

New to the 800 platform here. I have a 2000 2500 6.0 ext cab that I just acquired a couple months back. I'm rebuilding the steering and suspension in a couple of weeks. Can anyone give me insight on replacing the steering box. I have a quarter of steering wheel turnplay in the box before it turns the output shaft. How can I find out which spline count I have without physically removing the box so I can go ahead and order parts if there is such a way? Thanks in advance and sorry if I missed it during my search. Sure I'll be in here a lot!

Well, you could take the nut off and count.

I've found a bunch of questions on Google, but no one ever comes back and tells lol.
