I think in WI it’s any vehicle older then 20 years you can put one on
No i meant, my truck being the weight class it is, should be a grey 1 ton plate,

The Excess of 8000 isnt for vehicle weight itself, its the GVWR so whatever loads you have on the hitch itself and the bed and the cabin and the trucks own weight. so if my 9600gvw is to be used entirely I must have an X rating (which is JUST passed the C rating of 8000gvwr of the one im currently using.... which costs 45$ more a year... lol. they dont check. but a state boy would since they are DOT.)
I have a 5,100 pound truck tho, so hopefully it doesnt become a problem most of the time.
you cant have collector plates and pull heavy loads either
- Except for the four former military vehicles listed above, truck type vehicles with Collector plates cannot haul materials weighing more than 500 pounds, not including the weight of a camper, lid, or cap that is mounted on the truck, the weight of a trailer or load drawn by the truck
as for your truck, just be careful using the bed on highways I guess lol.
