This is somehow related to the fact that 5.3 engines weren't mated to manual trannies, and Advance Adapters and other places have bell housing adapters that move the large internal slave cylinder outside the bell giving the room needed, which is all well and good except that they require using their custom made flywheel when the flywheel for the 6.0 engine fits just fine. I swapped the NV4500 in place of the old 4L80E. It worked fine but when the engine blew with 50 miles on the 4500, I got the 5.3 from a wrecker. The internal slave is too big, 3 1/2" long. So going to external slave gives the room that's needed in the bell. I'm just wondering if anybody out there has found a bell adapter that I can use my brand new stock flywheel and pressure plate with. Also I don't like knowing that if the flywheel needs replacing I have to go back to AA or whatever company and buy their custom made one.
I did hear that Lakewood Adapters has the bell with external slave that works with stock clutch kit. But haven't been able to confirm that yet as they don't seem to have an online site. One tech guy at AA suggested I buy a smaller internal slave from some company but they don't carry it. Many thanks for any help. Nothing on Youtube that I can find.
