Hii, I have an 03 Chevy Tahoe 5.3L pouring like raining in the back of the engine when putting the water into the coolant reservoir, is it the engine block freeze plug? Or head gasket?

Welcome to the forum from Oregon.

I would have a friend pour the water and you need to crawl under with goggles on and get wet to see where it is all coming from......with a water proof light.

Good luck!

Looks like on the passenger side at the firewall area. Possibly the heater hoses, hose tees or maybe even the reservoir bottle itself.

That explains to amount of flow. I have never ever seen water/coolant come out like that unless engine freeze plug blew out or some part of engine is cracked.

Has the engine frozen over at any time? The engine block "freeze plugs" are actually all Allen hex thread plugs, so not likely to pop out. The heads do have some press fit plugs...I believe it's for the coolant passages?

The heater hose quick connects are a known source to crack and cause massive leaks, so check those as @ORVietVet mentioned.

Otherwise, a strong flashlight, an inspection mirror and 2 eyes should find that leak...

Good luck and let us know what you find.

I've never known a head gasket to leak like that. With that much water, my first thought is freeze plug. I suppose it could be steam port related, but I'd think you'd see that from the top.
I don't see it from the top sadly, the heater hoses are fine and they are in the way of see everything in the back, and I also wanted to confirm, if it's not the freeze plug, what else could it be?

the heater hoses are fine, I can see them from the top bone dry with no leaking, not sure if I really need to drop the transmission in order to check the rear plugs on the head and the block?
