Command start killing battery?

I have an aftermarket Fortin command start in my 04 silverado, every 2 weeks the battery is 100% dead when not using the truck (because i still havent tracked down the random misfire code problem)
Anyone with an after market command start tell me if this is normal?

This is not uncommon. Lots of remote starts cause heavy battery draw. I wouldn't say it's "normal", because they shouldn't do that.

I agree, they really shouldn't. I cut the cable ties and dug through the taped up wires and found the power plug to disconnect it. I guess i will see it that was the problem or not now.

I have one of these and have used it one time to help locate an intermittent draw. It was worth it.

BUT, I would never have a remote/command start, even if in a cold climate like you. Eventually they cause problems.

I also see mechanics today find parasitic drain with thermal imaging.

All you need to locate parasitic draw is a multimeter that does amps, a couple gator clip leads, and some pliers for pulling fuses.

The amount of vehicles I have fixed by unplugging, or telling the owner to unplug, an aftermarket remote start! In Alaska everyone has one and unless it factory I can't stand them!

The link I posted is for a meter that attached at the DTC/DLC connector and bypasses the battery and then you don't disconnect the battery to read the ma draw thru the negative battery post and negative cable end.

And it's neat. But $200 is also a little steep IMO for that. I'd rather not run an unknown level of current through the DLC either.

I have only used mine once but was worth the money to me. My shop owner friend has used numerous times and loves his, with no problems.
