I have no input for the clunk, but I will say that forums in general are a excellent resource. I know I have used the help of other many times before. From simple things I was overlooking to stuff that I didn't even know was possible.

thats is why i boost DYI, because if not for us fixing our own stuff, we wouldnt ever learn anything

I agree, I try to do it myself unless I get stumped or it's over my head I'll check the forum first then go for professional help

Food for thought...Drive line clunk could be your slip yoke in the transmission sticking. Sometimes a little anti seize will stop it. I believe there was a recall or a bulletin on this issue. My 99 Tahoe did it. I cleaned up yoke and used anti seize and now over 50k miles later no clunk.
