Parts came in…ac delco gold parts are made in China?!? Guess it’s been awhile since I’ve worked on a Chevy.
I was catching up on this thread and was going to warn you about that. Delco for the most part is just a name on a box. And, unfortunately, usually just a "white box" part with a label.

If I want as close to OE as possible for these rigs, I try to source Delphi parts. Delphi actually made a lot of the parts for GM originally. I still trust most GM genuine branded stuff, but not Delco, and definitely not "AC Delco Silver" ... That stuff is garbage.

I have mismatched upper and lower ball joints in my GMT800 as RA accidentally sent me 3 uppers and 1 lower. I used the Dorman RD lowers and am a fan. They are metal-on-metal so you have to keep up on greasing them. The Dorman RD boots are still in good shape, while the mevotech supreme upper boots are split and leaking grease after 4 years or so. I'll probably go full RD next time.

I just put Moog parts in my GMT400 and those were all (surprisingly) made in USA! Moog parts for the 800 are solid too, I had them on mine for rebuild #1. One thing about owning an IFS chevy, you'll learn how to change parts efficiently ;)

Good call for next time! I live in a town that had a Delphi plant (had many family friends that worked there).

Ball joints were shot. Plan to install the Wolff steering column bearing tomorrow when it comes in and an alignment later this week. I had my doubts about it needing all these parts but it did!

Interesting enough the lift/level it had before isn’t enough now - the control arms must be slightly different. Glad I bought the maxxcam keys.

If you are gonna do that Wolff steering column bearing, while you are that deep in there, do yourself a favor and do the brake pedal pivot bushing and a new stop light switch.

Did you get a new steering shaft?

I didn’t. Thinking I could use a new upper intermediate shaft?
You have to pull the upper shaft to do the column bearing correct? I would, my upper shaft was worn and making noise. I replaced it with a nice GM Genuine one. If it is out, you might as well replace it. I hate trying to wedge myself down under the dash

I am not seeing the GM genuine unit offered anymore, I guess mine has been in there a while...

But, it looks like Borgeson makes a nice one for the GMT800

We found it on marketplace. 175k.

We have some camping trips planned and I have several hunting and fishing trips in mind, looking forward to seeing where it takes us.

Nice snag. Oh she’ll take ya places, in comfort!
Went looking for pictures of your suburban - they are identical. Plans seem similar too. This was my end goal before I bought mine:IMG_5573.jpeg
This is a screen shot from a Suboverland video - almost went to Idaho to buy from them but the 1 we got in Texas was a better fit.

Have you painted your wheels yet? I’m going to try plasti dip first.

Nice! Yea you did well buying a single owner family car from Texas. She’s ready for adventure
I haven’t.. been too busy with the kids and work. My Father’s Day plans are to detail the Burb, polish wheels headlights restore plastic and clay bar. I’m pretty pumped. I wanna rock the polished wheels for a while and really talk to some experts about the best options for the black. I’m thinking a matte semi shining finish similar to the pic in my thread would be best for the snow flake wheels. Not sure if that’s achieved through cerakote or powder coat or some other means.. in any regard it needs to be durable and then look good. Can’t have any paint or flaking over time

In any regard the wheels are probably a few years out when I get the Burb back for my daily and we get my wife some new wheels

Sounds like a good plan! I used the cerakote headlight restoration kit last week (1 kit did all lights front and rear) - very happy with how they turned out. I also have the cerakote plastic trim restoration kit, haven’t had a chance to try it yet.
