They are wider than the flange on the fender and it has a cutout for the spot where the hood bumper and the bar span to
Ok, that's what I thought that you were talking about.
My 2000 does have them. But the driverside is falling off.

In all of these years working on them, I've never paid attention to that part. I've never noticed that some trucks might not have had those.

I think they carried it over a bit later on certain 6.0s? Not sure if it was engine or model-specific.

I once bought this LQ9 engine that was 2004 and it still had the EGR (with a DBW set-up).
oh interesting. maybe just a certain GVW or something. I think the Express carried the EGR longer too, because the thing did cable throttle, previous pcm too for a while.
On that note, the 2003-2005 LQ4 and LQ9 are interesting, the Cams are all over the place (prob for the egr part) and so are piston pin type, and retrofitability is a patchwork of stuff, so thats probably why.

Yeah. I think they (GM) started rolling some stuff off the assembly line under the table since they had Gen IV up their sleeves?

Yeah, late 6.0 Gen III have the same cam bearings journals as the Gen IV, as well as the Gen IV connecting rods. That 2004 LQ4 engine I bought had the Gen IV connecting rods. That engine was bad, and the connecting rods were actually the only thing I reused for another build.

The LQ4 on my 06 Suburban also had the Gen IV connecting rods. I did a DIY rebuild and installed an aftermarket mild towing cam. Used the CH-25 cam bearings which are wider and are meant for the Gen IV. No EGR on that one, of course.

Yes, I believed they managed to deal away with the EGR by tweaking the cam specs, as well as better ECUs (P59), whenever that came out?

That was a GOOOOOD thing!

Everyone and their cat HATE EGR systems...LOL
Yeah, I just know when buying an exhaust manifold for a 6l 2500 that the EGR opening disappears when looking at the 2004 MY. Earlier years will still have it at rockauto or other parts stores. Even the GM OEM offering has the EGR provision prior to 04 on those websites.

Here it is in English so that others dont have to translate it.

"The small indicator for the airbox condition was also removed. I don't remember exactly when that happened. Perhaps that was only the case with the 1999 to 2002 models? Only my '99 still has it. You can simply replace the lid if you want to put it back on. Honestly, I never figured out how to use or read the little thing."

My 2000 Silverado still has it. It is vacuum-operated. If the air filter is dirty, the vacuum pressure increases, pulling the indicator into the red zone. To reset it, you have to press the button at the top.

found this on the service data 2003:
A Component Comparison from the Previous Year
Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system has been deleted on all applications.
A spacer plate between the crankshaft and flywheel is required for applications using the 4L80-E transmission.

The 6.0L LQ9 engine, VIN N, is available as an optional engine package.

THEN
in 2004:

Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system has been deleted on all applications.

A spacer plate between the crankshaft and flywheel is required for applications using the 4L80-E transmission.

All 2004 applications use a piston with a graphite coated skirt.

The 6.0L RPO LQ9 engine, VIN N, is available as an optional engine package.

RPO HP2 adds a stator, rotor, flexplate, thermal bypass fitting and thermal bypass hose.

The positive crankcase ventilation valve is a non-serviceable fitting on the left rocker arm cover.

The fuel rails for all engines, except the RPO L59, are returnless fuel systems. The fuel pressure regulator for those engines is now a part of the fuel pump module.

First design applications use a piston pin that is floating fit to the piston and press fit to the connecting rod. Second design applications use a piston pin that is full-floating to both the piston and connecting rod.

The first design piston, press-fit pin, and connecting rod are to be serviced as an assembly.

2005:

All M11 cylinder head bolts are the same length.

All applications use full-floating design piston pins.

5.3 liter RPO L33 applications have an aluminum engine block.

Some applications may use a second design camshaft retainer plate and bolts. Refer to Camshaft Installation .

2007:
A Component Comparison from the Previous Year
The oil filter bypass valve is now internal to the oil filter.

A new design inverted-lip crankshaft rear oil seal is now used.

note: nothing for 2006 was listed different from 2005 , and this was 2002 and earlier I could find:

2002:

A new 5.3L engine has been developed and is identified as RPO L59 VIN Z.

A new 6.0L engine has been developed and is identified as RPO LQ9 VIN N.

All applications will use a two-point engine coolant air bleed pipe design.

The Air Injection Reaction (AIR) system had been deleted from all applications.

A second design valve stem oil seal and shim assembly will be used on all engines.

Certain applications use a multi-layer steel design cylinder head gasket.

6.0L LQ9 engines will use a full-floating piston and pin design. In those applications, the pin is retained in the piston by retaining clips.

2001:

In manual transmission applications, a new design transmission pilot bearing is used.

All cylinder heads are of a cast aluminum design.

All crankshafts will have a short rear flange (at the crankshaft rear oil seal area). Certain applications (4.8L manual transmission and all 6.0L) require a spacer between the rear of the crankshaft and the flywheel for proper flywheel positioning. Longer bolts are required in applications using the spacer.

The oil fill tube has increased in length.

The current design four point engine coolant air bleed pipe will be used on early engines. A second design two point pipe (mounted to the front of each cylinder head), will be used on later engines.

All 6.0L applications have a new design camshaft.

Engine sight shield design has changed. The 4.8L and 5.3L applications will use a new one piece design. The 6.0L applications will use a new three piece shield.

A second design valve stem oil seal and shim assembly may be used on later engines.

I never realized how many little things had been decontented. The puddle lamps, kick lamps, glove box light and secondary visors are all things that make me appreciate my '00 Suburban.

2000 Slider window removed , however it was due to poor production quality, in 2002 it was available as a dealer option with 2 new designs.
