I'd give y'all some crap for getting an 800 instead of a 400 but I almost forgot what forum I'm on.. this isn't gmt400.com, LOL

Truck looks nice! Agreed; some repaint up top and it'll be really sharp.

C'mon man! The forum page colors are way different. Try some eye drops for help with that.

Not much going on. I can't remember if I told you guys I got a new job back in January. This place is 28 miles each way from my house and we travel all over the metroplex to job sites. So I'm rotating between the 99 Silverado and the 06 Suburban, dropping my kids off school. Next week I'm in Austin for some seminar my company is paying for, so the Silverado it is to drive down there :).

But today a co-worker broke the tailgate handle on my Silverado. I had forced the tailgate closed with one of those foldable ladders, and when he tried to open it broke because tailgate had to be pushed in to unlatch. Doh!

I found a "metal upgrade" replacement from Amazon. I'll let you guys know how it works out: https://a.co/d/0H775Tq

Mine is not broken but is sloppy. I may get one of these and have ready. Looking forward to review from @stutaeng

I got the new handle in the mail yesterday. It "seems" pretty good and has nice hefty to it, but need to install it and see how it fits. Made in Taiwan... I'll take it.
I did check some reviews on this handle and most were satisfied. Some complained about small pieces of "cast slag" that inhibited the smooth operation. May need to use a small dremel tool to round some spots but not likely.

My tailgate handle is the OE one and is slightly sloppy but fine for now. Interested in @stutaeng review and pics of the install.

I just installed the handle. Took about 15 minutes. You can see the old vs new. Seems to work well.

I also bought a new bezel, but just decided to reuse my old one and put a few dabs of adhesive on the foam tape. Added a few strips of tape to hold it in place until the adhesive cures. I'm planning on painting the roof/hood and probably the tailgate as well, then I'll install the new bezel.

Initial slop in the handle on the pull and side to side play/slop and if it holds up to everyday use.

Nice solid feel? No slop?
slop is from adjustment on the rods and the plastic that retains them into the handle, but it could be the handle too but it would need to be VERY worn

The bezel from dorman is good but doesnt sit flush on the bottom with tailgate, i had to replace mine

The clips are assholes, i bought a set of 6 of each after dorman ones failed instantly

Just bought a pack of 10 Auveco brand clips for GMT400 tailgate handles (#18926); $15 off amzn. Broke a super brittle original clip while pulling the handle out of Critter so I could do battle with the one marker light wire that fell down into the tailgate while I was replacing a bad lamp. What a PITA. Dunno if that's the same part for GMT800's.. I do know they're larger than the door handle clips, which I did have spares of, but not useful for this application.

Has anyone replaced their license plate lights? The housing on one each on Silverado and Suburban little tabs broke and they pop out of the bumper hole....

I was looking at the Marimoto, but some reviews mentioned the tabs on theirs have also broken... SMH

Yeah, I dunno if I'd spend any money on fancy ones. The Dormans for $8 or so were just fine.

I bought a set of the replacement LED lights off of Amazon. Easy install and super bright. Even noticed it lit the area behind the truck better; see behind through the camera. I’ll see about getting a night picture later.View attachment 2768

I ordered some chrome ones from Amazon, can't remember the name...

I guess I didn't realize they changed them. I double checked my 06 Suburban and those are actually black. My 99 Silverado has them in chrome and that's what I had ordered. Oh well...
