I also wiped out the entire passenger side door jambs. No pics, boo.

Now for the huge wow factor.

That right there is why I got paid good money at the salvage yards. I could do everything but run the loader & crusher. That's just because I hadn't learned it yet.

I could turn a moldy vomit Mercedes $50 seat into a $400 seat that you would never know was that filthy.

Last night I started to test the factory CD radio that I picked up this past weekend.
In the parked position, the radio stations work as it should.
I still have to take it for a drive to see if I still get the wine or not.
Went to give it a cd that I don't care about, it wouldn't take it. So either there is a cd stuck in there or it needs to be relubed & or a rubber band?
I did try that cd in the slave cd. It took it but won't play it nor give it back.

I waited until dark to check the radio button lights. The cd radio has burnt out button lights. Just as many as the cassette radio, but different spots.

As long as it doesn't wine, I can always refurbish it.

Last night I tested the underhood light that I picked up a few weeks ago (the original one didn't work & had a broken mount).
It didn't work.
So I dissected it to try cleaning the contacts to see if that fixes it.
I completely cleaned it up & reassembled it.

I hooked it up this morning.
It works now.

So I lightly cleaned up the passenger front seat. Yes, I know that the leather is shot & that I'm putting the cover back on it. I just wanted to clean it up a little first. Plus if it had any smells to it, it would dissipate it some.

Half way through:

It did lighten up a little.

So I finally took the Sierra on drive since putting in the new-to-me factory CD radio. The truck is not my daily driver. This radio does not have a wine. Like I suspected, the capacitors were bad in the other radio. Now that I know that the antenna system is not an issue, I can move fwd with rehabbing the factory radio, installing the steering wheel radio controls and replacing the speakers as they crackle at a little over half volume.

So seeing how my helper was a no-call, no-show today. I decided to install the new door speakers.
I didn't soundproof the door shells as I have intentions of trying to find new-to-me color-matched doors in better condition & better paint.

1st, the removal of the 25yr old stock speakers. While they sound great at lower volumes, it's when you get about half-way in volume and it starts to crackle.

Surprisingly, the cones were intact still.

Now on for the new speakers.

I chose 6.5" Kicker 46csc654 speakers for the doors.
Stock size, so zero mods to the door.
Crutchfield retail was $100, on sale for $80. The next level down retailed at $80.
Plus they came with free Metra harness adapters. That was a $10 savings in of itself.
I also picked up XTC speaker baffles.
A: they help direct the sound into the cab with less lose in the doors.
B: if your weatherstripping happens to leak water into the door, it helps to protect the speakers from the weather, which in turn helps them last longer. I've been using them for years and put them on everyone's install.

Now for the pics, because who doesn't like pics?

And yes, I also use the Metra speaker brackets. Like I said, zero mods to the doors.

I just cut a small slit into the bottom of the speaker baffle and insert the harness adapter 1-wire at a time through it.
When done, the assembly is essentially a small speaker box.

Seeing how my helper didn't show today, I used the truck to pull a coaxial wire.
Yeah, you read that right, lol.
The coaxial cable was buried about 4" in the ground & not encased.
Because I am doing a full rehab & the coaxial was either damaged or disconnected in the house, I just gutted all of it instead of wasting time tracing the mess.
I'll run all-new cleanly.

Seeing how it rained heavily yesterday & last night, the ground is softer. I'm not willing to hurt my back or hands trying to pull it through the spidergrass roots. So I tied it to the Hitch and drove extremely slow. It broke a few times. So I just retied it & pulled again. Ended up pulling about 50' of cable.

After I pulled it up, I just pushed the lawn back into the hole & stepped on it. I'm not overly concerned with the lawn condition yet. Maybe next yr I'll get it fixed correctly?

Work smart not hard...worked! I'll keep that mind if I ever come across that task!

Funny enough, this is the second cable buried in the yard. I pulled the other one a few months ago. It was only buried about 2".

Lazy people.

If you went & did actual yard work, these cables would get damaged because you didn't know that they were there & why would you?

In the extended cab doors, you can fit 5 1/4 or 6 1/2 round if you don’t mind opening the hole a bit. You just have to watch the mounting depth. I’ve done both in extended cabs. Red is current, gray was last truck. I’ve always used those baffles.IMG_8949.jpegIMG_9110.jpeg

So how does it sound? When I did the Yukon the sound was night and day better.

The front definitely sounds better. I still have to order the tweeters to finish off the front & the speakers for the rear. Then it'll sound even better. I'm sure that once the head unit is upgraded it'll sound even better.

I know, I know, it's been a minute since any updates. Between the holidays, a full rehab on my house & projects for other people, I've obviously been a little busy. Actually I'm always busy, lol.

Okay, trivia time.
The following picture is the hint to something that I did to the Sierra.

No, I didn't put a bedliner in the truck, the rotliner came with it.
