No side to side movement, just a little advance movement.Curious, did you give it a turn either direction and at various points in that motion, give it a shove side to side? That's what it took for me to notice the wear on the 7.4 I put in the HD.
Seems odd a rotor could look that bad with so few miles. There's a root cause that should be a flashing red sign...once you find it.

I really think cheap china junk was to blame. The metal tab on the rotor broke and was MIA. That would explain why it would idle fine but at load and high rpm the ignition would cut out. I’m sure the distributor is worn but it “good enough” right now.
