I bought these and replaced the lights in 3 radios, just an option for you. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CGTRNPMP?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1
Thanks for the info.
I'll keep that info for down the road.
I only own 1 cassette that I randomly found a couple of months ago that I made back in the 90s.
I'm thinking of either swapping to the factory CD radio or maybe swapping in a Pioneer double din that I have sitting on the shelf?

Currently my other issue w/ the radio is that I have a radio wine too.
The truck was pretty original when I got it.
I'm thinking that maybe a capacitor went bad in the radio?

My yr has the old-school whip antenna, not the sharkfin style. I believe that the sharkfin style started in 2003. I know those are definitely powered.
Here is a thread about it:

Thanks for the info.
But that is for the 2003+ models, the ones w/ the roof mounted antennas.
2002- & the 2003+ have different electrical systems.

For my yr, it's a whip antenna attached to a mounting block bolted to the fender, then an antenna cable attaches from the radio to the mounting block.

Super simplistic, extremely rare that this system style goes bad.

I'm fairly confident that a capacitor went bad.

Specifically, the factory radio sends 12V power up the center antenna conductor on that little mini-barb connector the factory antenna cable uses, to power an antenna amplifier in the base of the antenna out on the passenger fender

99-04 all the same.

Stopped at the salvage yard today. Took me 3 trucks to get enough clean bolts for the battery tray.

Those have been pretty rusty on my trucks, I'm guessing from the battery corrosiveness?

Last year i actually ground them, cleaned and painted them. They looked worse than that though.

When I replaced the battery, the terminals had corrosion on them & the battery tray was rotted from the acid. Thankfully the damage was limited to only the tray.

I can't be bothered to clean bolts. I go to the salvage yard often enough & they don't charge me for stupid things like that.

Haul #1 from the salvage yard today.
Factory CD radio missing all of the knobs out of a 99 Silverado rcsb. And a AUX switch w/ dash harness out of an 02 Silverado. Funny enough, it didn't have the harness going up the a-pillar or any roof lights. Zero holes in the roof. Also got a water shield for the 3rd door.

Ignore the green harness, lol. That's part of haul #2.

Today & tomorrow are supposed to be rain days, so I can't continue to work on my roof.

So I figured I'd start some work on the truck until the rain starts.

I pulled the passenger seat in preparation of rebuilding the tracks.
Took the seat cover off to get a good look at the trashed leather.

While the seat is out, I cleaned the passenger side of the carpet, the side of the center console and dash.

After

There is nothing that I can do about the sun fade, but at least it's cleaner looking.
I still gotta vacuum it again.
