December 2021 - replaced the faded headlights with clear corner lights. I also added cheap ($18 for all 6) Ebay LEDs in the high, low, and driving lights. Also added a black grill insert. I need to pull the grill inserts and respray the original grill flat black. Someday, I'll get around to having the hood redone.

9/2022. Found an OEM hood. Think this might have been a take off since it was in a Goodmark cowl hood box. There is no way I could have refinished the old hood for what I paid for this one.

It's obvious I hadn't entered anything new into my build thread. That nice hood above got destroyed due to a ... well let's say a distracted driver sometime late 2023. I had a exchange student with us for a little over a year. We loaned him my red truck to drive to school. Our local Walmart has a concreted stop sign in the middle of the parking lot and he just happened to hit it. No, we didn't turn it into insurance.20240107 Hood.jpg20231215 Weike stop sign.jpg

He called me the night it happened. We went over to check it out. For most part, it was all cosmetic. Hood, bumper, rad cover, grill, right headlight bracket bent / cracked. As luck had it, I found an 05 that was being parted out 20 minutes away. We got a hood, grill, bumper with top pad, right headlight bucket for about $350. Hood and grill were dark blue. I still had my original hood sitting around so it went back on the truck for the time being.20231217 Weike used 2005 parts.jpg

Fast forward to the kids spring break / April 2024. I took him to Outer Banks, NC (my folks are a few hours away from there). I got to playing around on Facebook Marketplace just to see what I could find around I40 from Tennessee to eastern North Carolina and found another hood outside of Sevierville, TN (2 hours from the my house). Good paint and it was off of an 05 and price was right. IMG_5130.JPG

Kid had to go back to Germany end of May. Before he left, he ordered a new rad cover and a black grill off of Amazon. Again, no paint booth; I use whatever happens to be available ... in this case some dog chain and a shepherd's hook. I got a light coat of the red on it and ran out of paint.

I ended up selling both the blue hood and the blue grill on Marketplace. They almost paid for the used bumper. The lower air dam was my original that I'd set in the sun to pull the kink out.

8/28/2024. I'd been dealing with what I thought was a frozen left front caliper. Brake would lock up to the point that I swore you could light a match off of the rim. Replaced the caliper and it was fine for about a week. Then it came back. Ended up replacing both front brake lines. Haven't had any problems since.

I’ve had this one since September 2016. I totaled an 03 Silverado and wanted the same truck series as a replacement. I’ve owned 4 of these: 02 Silverado 2WD 5.3, 04 Silverado Z71 5.3, 03 Silverado 2wd 5.3, and this 04 Silverado 2wd 4.8. Better to stick with what you know. I bought it when it had 118,000; it’s got around 191,500 now. This is my daily driver; work is a 2 hour round trip.

Tonneau is a Smittybilt Smart Cover, it uses something similar to marine grade vinyl . I wasn’t sure I was going to like it but it seems to be holding up well. It was on clearance and cheap for a tri-fold. I wanted to show how the pocket covers work with it. IMG_8211.jpegIMG_8213.jpeg

After using the back up camera for a while, seeing anything behind the truck at night was not good. I’d been having issues the tag lights not staying in place (tabs broke); these were probably the originals. Ordered the LEDs off of Amazon and talk about a night and day difference. The light these things put off definitely ended up helping the camera when backing up. IMG_8215.jpegIMG_8217.jpeg

Great thread. I'm glad everything worked out for you and truck got repaired.

I'm working on my 04 "project" suburban and it had a smashed hood when I bought it, and the roof clear was peeling. I painted both, and using this as practice. The roof was actually a challenging part because it's friggin' huge!

My 99 Silverado ECSB has started to get clear failure at the upper pillars and the roof is looking kinda sad. Besides a few chips and dings, it's otherwise in good shape. I'm thinking of doing a complete paint job. But will probably do it in parts: roof, hood and tailgate, then one side or both sides.

I was in Tennessee last week for a job. Flew to Nashville and then drove to Sweetwater.
